Default kefir

hi there - does anyone know if kefir is lower in lactose than regular milk? my brain says it would be since the bacteria feed off the sugar to multiply but I'm just not sure. i am looking to eat lower carb and noticed today when I had the first glass of milk i've had in a while that it spiked my blood sugar. I am just wondering if kefir would do the same thing.

thanks!
