Eek!

I just read that the FDA gives a 20% leeway in accuracy with nutritional information on packaging. Is this true? Am I the only one who didn't know this? That seems like a LOT! Hopefully the "overages" average out with the "underages".

One way to beat that, is to try and avoid packaged food and eat more whole foods.

The packaging is off on a lot of labels

The RDI allowances are generalizations anyway. The range of what particular bodies need is pretty wide, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

The FDA doesn't develop their own data anyway. They accept whatever the manufacturer submits in most cases. The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) has a some de-bunking data available on the labels they've tested themselves.

You may want to take a look.
