Any chance the FitDay folks can clarify this apparently on-going question on how to list sugar in our custom foods charts?????? Alcohol ain't a problem as I don't drink the stuff.

Hey, FITDAY, where can I insert the sugar numbers???

New here & the 1st thing I noticed in there's no place to list sugars.
This is a great place but that's a major flaw. It's like doing something half way. With all the diabetics in the world now I can't imagine not counting sugars. I also noticed no one is answering this question. Are there moderators on the board to help out?

I was inputting my sugars into alcohol field. Thanks for the correction. I guess I'll have to keep track of this separately. No worries.

Default Alcohol or Sugar Alcohol

I was confused over the alcohol vs. sugar alcohol as well (still not totally clear), but it looks like sugar alcohol should not be entered into FitDay. It is already accounted for in carbohydrates. I ran across an interesting article that indicates sugar alcohol is neither sugar nor alcohol, but is so named because the chemical properties are similar. (What are Sugar Alcohols?)
My only guess for the "alcohol" field is so you can track how much alcohol you actually consume...perhaps if you have 100 grams of champagne that is 10% by volume (numbers made up for simplicity), you could enter 10g in the alcohol section. It seems like you would still need to account for the calories, however.

Angry Use the alcohol field as a substitute field for tallying sugar

Since they surprisingly don't provide a sugar field, I use the alcohol field. That way I can see my daily intakes of sugar - except it's labeled as alcohol. Of course, it totally screws up any graphs and pie charts, but until Fitday fixes this oversite, there's no other option.

Why they can't mimic the standard food label is anyone's guess.

FitDay is inadequate for tracking sugar because it does not show a sub category under Carbs for Sugar info. In my view, we should be able to enter both Fiber and Sugar under Carbs.

I use the free web software. Wonder if the software or premium version allow sugar to be entered?

I think it was this thread, someone wrote they bought the premium version without looking there was no place for sugar on the basics. Sure enough not on the premium either.

Comment for fitday admin: Would it not be important for diabetic to able to differentiate sugar from regular carbohydrate, they are not assimilate by the body the same way. And I would personally like to be able to track them separately.
