Hello. I'm new to Fit Day and like the idea of tracking my stuff. I just started walking on a regular basis. I have a very sedentary life style and arthritis so I have ballooned to 360 which is just not attractive on a 5'10" frame. I have never been comfortable with setting goals, and until recently I believed that weight loss was like Santa Clause. Everyone pretends to believe in it because that's the PC thing to do, but everyone knows the truth and even if it did really exist, it only stuck around for a short time and was gone again. So, my goal that I have now isn't weight loss. I just want to be able to walk more. I am totally fine with weight loss as a side effect, but I don't want the pressure of weight loss. I think that would mess with my head. Anyway, that's why I'm here and what I'm doing. Be gentle with me, I'm a newbie. :p
Welcome! As you walk more, and stick to a diet of fewer calories, you will be ABLE to walk more - it will be easier for you. Your muscles will strengthen and you'll be moving through space with less weight, so it will get easier.
Yeah, weight loss will evaporate if you don't work on maintaining the loss by continuing to eat less and move more! But you CAN do it. There's a great DVD series that is sold in many stores... here it is on amazon.com:

Tracking/Logging your food can be a real eye opener. Just track for a couple of weeks and then go back and look at what you can change or reduce. Find your Base Metabolic Rate (BMR) (if you fill out your profile Fitday will do it for you). Then just try to eat 500 calories less than that everyday. This will only generate about a 1 lb loss per week but thats 52 lbs a year! Decreasing your calories and increasing your walking will make increase the rate.
