I think almost everyone trying to lose weight (whether that be 10 pounds or 100) had to hit that point in their life where they said enough is enough. Some, like you have to experience health problems, others see their loved ones have health problems and finally recognize they are headed down the same path. Others like me just get tired of being an unhealthy weight and aren't willing to retire to the couch for the rest of our lives. The saddest part is there are many more that never reach that point. They shorten their own lives and downgrade the quality of their lives and relationships by the choices they make. So congratulations on recognizing you need to make changes.

Swimming can be excellent exercise! Many pools have structured workout classes and the great thing is the low impact of exercising in the water. Just understand your limits and whether it is in the water or out guard against pushing too hard and injuring surgical repairs.
