Hi Im New Today

A friend told me about this site,so Im giving it a go. Looks like it could be very helpful.
My Story:
Most of my life Ive been very big. I have yoyo dieted for a long time. Losing weight is never my problem, keeping it off longterm has been. The worst weight Ive ever been is 550 pounds. That was many years ago now,I will make an effort to discover exactly when. Most recently I started to see my dietician in June of 2011. Since June Ive done very well, from a starting weight of 470pounds,I am down to 396 as of end of December's dietician visit. Im thrilled,as I havent been under 400 in at least 15 years. My issues are not glanduler,Ive seen an endochrongologist. The main way Ive lost weight is simple...eat less do more. I try to walk at least 30-40minutes a day. Currently Im living in a small town with everything in walking distance,so I try to incorporate that into daily life.
I do extensive volunteer work with the Canadian Peregrine Foundation, with birds of prey(hawks eagles falcons),including rescues, feeding our educational birds, public education and just about anything else they need. I run a migrating bird of prey count every fall. I am a birdwatching enthusiast.
I chose to set 25 pound goals, and then another and another because I have so far to go. If I lose 8 or 10 pounds in a month, that is encouraging when U say 8 of 25 rather then 8 of 180. The latter to me sounds abit unwieldy and discouraging. So thats me. I will check in often.

Frank, welcome! You're story is pretty much the same as mine--I've lived most of my life at 300 plus and plenty of it at 400 plus.

FitDay worked for me "last time", back in '01 when I got down to 184 (coincidentally, where I am now), quit using it and well, you know the story!

This time, I'm older, perhaps a little smarter and have come to realize that I'll never be able to eat "normally". I need to track what I eat and that's a small price to pay.

Anyway, I hope you stick around and contribute when you like. You're welcome to join our "100 Pounds (or more) to lose thread over in Diet Tips--sometimes it's nice to talk to people who understand what it's like to be 200 or 300 lbs overweight.

Also, you might get in on the Lose 10% of your Bodyweight by April Fools Day challenge.

If there's anything we can do to help, just say the word!

Regards,
Michael
