Default New, Trying to get back in shape

Hello All! After working 30+ years, I've spent the last 6 doing relatively nothing while gaining 15 unwanted pounds. Trouble is, I'm 61 and muscle just doesn't seem to build like it did when I was in my twenties. I'm having to work harder, with less gain for the effort. Weight isn't dropping off as rapidly either.

I'm here to track my daily diet, exercise and learn something about my metabolic rate.

Scott,

Welcome to FitDay. The older we get the harder it is to get results. That doesn't mean that all hope is lost, it just means that we have to eat better and work harder at it. Good luck and specific questions just let us know.

You might want to take a good long look at your macros and see if you need to increase your protein intake, your muscles can't build up without it, and make sure to get enough water, 64oz baseline + another 8oz for every 10lbs you want to lose.

Hi Scott,
Welcome! It is, indeed, a little harder to build the strenght and lose the fat in our 50s and 60s than it was in our 20s. BUT we're so much smarter now. We've got a little more patience and we (hopefully) know ourselves pretty well by now.

At least for me, back in my 20s if it didn't happen overnight, I quit (pretty much no matter what "it" was). Now I know that anything worth acquiring is worth working for. And since I have enough experience in actually acheiving goals over the years, I have the confidence to know that I can do whatever I set my mind to do.

So yup, age has its benefits too!
