Thanks for the pep talk, Jenn.

Okay, so I have discovered that mowing the back yard (easy part of my yard) and horseback riding for 30 minutes are too much in one day. On the bright side, I learned how to ride with my feet not in the stirrups and use the cheater method to steer the horse.

I am seeing my heart specialist today. Wish me luck.

I'm trying something new tonight--a recipe for a sauce using tomatoes, peppers, onions and eggplant--all fresh from the garden as of this morning. It might not turn out so great, but it sure looks good in the picture! I'll cook hubbie some pasta and serve it with braised fresh ham--not the smoked, salted/cured kind from the store.

Tomorrow I'll try cooking some fresh carrot greens--that might not work either, but I will never know if I don't try!

Many folks wonder why I try so many different recipes since I'm trying to lose weight. Well, I do it for several reasons. I really do love to cook. I'm into eating foods found in my neck of the woods that are readily available, easy to fix and sustainably grown. I love learning how foods go together--or don't! I also love teaching my tastebuds to like new things. I prefer to get the bulk of my nutrients from food and figure that the wider my variety of foods, then the wider the variety of nutrients available to my body. The more nutrients I get from the foods I eat, the less will be needed from supplementing with vitamins.

My tastes have really changed over the years. I eat foods now I wouldn't have DARED touch when I was in my 20's.

I collect cookbooks and inherited my MIL's vast collection. My daughter says I've got enough recipes for my own cookbook, and she's probably right! Vicki

Hey Vicki...
Is there somewhere here or do you have a blog where you share the recipes you tried and liked?
How big is your garden?
I envy you so much...
Ian and I are still saving for retirement ergo living in Qatar at the moment....when the day comes we're buying our retirement home in New England...then I can have a garden again! Yayeee!
Another question...do you have any good okra recipe's? I love it....
Hope your well....thanks for the reply on the other post re: mentalpause...I nearly cried when I read it...(is that hormones too?! LOL!)

Talking Well Check Me Out!

Guess what guys?!?!
This week I've lost exactly 2.8 pounds!
Too cool eh?!
I'm actually proud of myself...and if you knew me you'd realise those moments are few and far between...
I started my blog yesterday...you can find it atKnittingHag
It's got some of my knitting stuff, books and my diet tip of the week...
It's not great but it gives me a place to lay out all of my thoughts.
Have a gander if you like...

So what's everyone up too this weekend? BBQ plans?
We've nothing planned but a trip to the book store...and my husband playing Skyrim...whilst I knit.

I hope your all healthy and happy!
Hugs
Jenn

Not much time to chat/respond right now. Will be back later. Have a great day, y'all!

  • Macro -- 7-day Rolling Average Fats = 55-60g: 50, 51, 47
  • Macro -- 7-day Rolling Average Carbs = 115-125g: 141, 140, 126

    • Monday: Finally got around to making those muffins. Started with a base of corn muffins, added in some wheat bran, flaxseed meal and protein powder and they turned out DE-LI-CIOUS! Had to stop myself from chowing down on them. Immediately wrapped (individually) and popped them into the freezer.

DOCTOR NEWS:

As of right now I am reduced by 1/2 pill. I know it doesn't seem like much but it is the beginning for the weaning process. By July I will be taking prescription drugs only in the morning and they will be reduced to only three pills instead of the six I take now.

Great news Jenn. Vicki, I will be joining you on the recipes. I have an Ancient Roman camp menu to plan. Mostly I will be mixing my own spices for that.

This weekend I am going to a Champions event. For the most part I will be sitting in the sun wearing my Viking garb and watching the battles while I sew. Sunday is my husband's birthday, so there will be cake. Probably ice cream cake. I simply have to show restraint and only have one serving sized piece.

Jenn: I am so doing the HAPPY DANCE for you!!! Nearly three pounds in a week -- phenomenal! As far as weekend plans, I got a whole lotta nuttin. Tell your husband, though, that Skyrim is AWESOME!!!

Vicki: Speaking of AWESOME, I think it's great that you're so into cooking! It's especially impressive that you use so many fresh-from-your garden ingredients. I agree with you about re-training the tastebuds. I've lowered my sodium intake over the past few years and now, when I taste anything salty, it's really SALTY!!! I taste salt in things where I never tasted it before.

Annette: Congratulations on the doctor report. That has to b a relief. With regard to the cake, have the one piece, enjoy the heck out of it, log it and move on. We may be watching our diets, but we still have to live. And the occasional indulgence is, in my opinion, needed. As long as it's moderate and occasional .

I just wonder how much calories are burned if you have stage fright. I managed to play my whole song, but I was shaking like a leaf leading up to and including the playing time.

One piano recital down, now start planning for next year.
