Motivational Thread Jan. 12 - 18 - Make Today Count!

I managed to get my water in yesterday even though it took me four hours to fill my first bottle. I kept getting side tracked with odds and ends around the house.
Vegetables were good yesterday as well. I added green beans and cabbage to my meals yesterday.
I am not a happy camper today. I volunteered to drive a friend to the doctor. It turned out to be today, right in the middle of my walk time. Any other day I would consider fitting it in later, but I have paperwork to get done this afternoon.

Soooo, yesterday was not the best day nutrition wise for me. Sunday, I just wasn't really hungry, so, when I got up yesterday I was really hungry, but was trying to eat the same as Sunday.
I really do know, when my body is looking for substance, protein, and I eat carbs, it isn't going to work. I kept trying though, all throughout the day!! Until supper time, when I settled on a large chicken breast! (should have done something like that for breakfast and the day would not have been the wreck it was up to suppertime)
Today, all is good, appetite is normal, up .7 of a pound, but that it temporary.
Lesson of the day again!! Listen to when you are genuinely hungry!

You two are cracking me up! Seriously!
Bea - Sorry to hear you had a bit of a rough day, but sounds like you made solid choices regardless! Good job lady!

Yesterday wasn't so great. I was low on fruits and veggies as well as water. I guess on the plus side, when you've done so bad for so long, I can still lose when I'm half way decent. I'm still going to push to drop another pound this week.

I didn't log yesterday, but did eat on plan. Even managed to control some really strong cheat cravings; temptation was coming from cinnamon and sugar pastries my husband bought. In place of that I took a 5 gram net carb really soft flour tortilla, smeared some butter substitute on it and warmed it in the microwave. Then I sprinkled it with a packet of artificial sweetener and cinnamon. It satisfied my craving.
My scale isn't moving but it's not from cheating--it's from too much sodium and diet pop. Plan to remedy that is to drink lots of water and limit the processed foods.
This morning I was craving French toast. Although the texture wasn't the same, I made a great substitute using low carb pita bread, opening the end to let some of the zero cholesterol egg mixture flow inside, which also helped bulk it up a little. I spread two teaspoons of sugar free blackberry preserves and some unsalted sunflower seeds on top. Super yummy to me! I should put that in the Food Forum's Low Carb thread.
ohelp, best wishes on making great strides this week.
Lynda, I hope logging your food helps. It's a pain in the butt to have to do that, but it's worth the effort. (Yes, I need to practice what I preach.) I hope you held your ground with eating at home before the tailgate party.
Debbie, thanks for your encouragement. I've known a few people who had toe joint problems and it took a doctor to get them past it. Aw, honey, I wish you massive quantities of COMFORT! That's great that you got your son's room back together. Exercise too close to bedtime keeps me awake so I try to get it in before dinner. Good choice on the exercise bike in view of your foot pain.
Lisa, kudos on avoiding your cheat temptation and eating the leftover poppyseed chicken. On the shake cheat: sweetie, you know what to do and how to do it. Your statement: "I know tomorrow is a new day with a new start, though I can't even see a glimmer of light down the dark tunnel ahead of me. I hope tomorrow is a more positive day for me with more inner strength and determination." You said the right stuff--it shows you have it in you to conquer the monkey on your back. I smiled at your calling yourself a good cook. I consider myself a good cook also and sometimes it's a curse as far as portion control goes. Best wishes on your day of redemption.
Annette, kudos on getting in your water yesterday. I made homemade veggie soup yesterday and as I was enjoying some my great-granddaughter reached her hands up to me to signal she wanted a taste of whatever I was having. She's the veggie hater, but she loved the broth which also consisted of juices in which I had cooked other fresh and frozen veggies and meat and saved those juices in the freezer as a soup stock starter, so it was loaded with nutrition. When she left the room I pureed some of the soup veggies, added some tomato juice and water to thin it, and invited her back for more. She had a good half a cup of what was actually pureed veggie soup. I guess it's the texture of most cooked veggies she hates, not the taste. I'm glad I'm so sneaky. LOL Best wishes on getting your paperwork done after your good deed taking your friend to the doctor.
Bea, my laurels spread a long time ago. I agree it's true that sitting too much contributes to that. When I'm really hungry, although I love carby stuff, what actually makes me fill full is that good ol' combo of protein and moderate fat. Fiber also helps me feel full longer. I guess the carbs are digested more quickly. Is that it? I often do non-conventional breakfasts and eat leftover meat and/or veggies for breakfast when I get in a rut of eating zero cholesterol egg blend with stuff added to make it more filling. My weight is up a little, too, but I think it should be down by Friday's Easter Challenge weigh-in.
Mike, yeah, if your goals ain't broke, there's no need to fix them. You're a good cook. Why not whip up a pot of something that has a lot of veggies in it--some veggie soup, or stew or some gumbo with a bunch of greens in it? Gotta eat your veggies if you want to grow up to be strong and healthy!
Libby, you have quite admirable exercise goals! Way to go on that!

Mike, I must confess that if I didn't have insulin resistance I'd enjoy potatoes several times a week. I'm not a huge fan of potato soup, but love steak fries, mashed potatoes, loaded baked potatoes, fried potatoes, new potatoes cooked in a big pot of green beans with ham. Uh, oh--food porn. But I like mashed cauliflower almost as well as mashed potatoes, so that's a saving grace.
Bea, great job on the exercise!
