I find that if I don't post a couple times a day, I get all messed up with keeping what everyone had to say straight with the people who said it.

Libby, if you have a doctor who is too quick to prescribe and refer, maybe it's time to switch to a doctor you're more comfortable with who will work with you on your cholesterol levels.

Mern, you posted a lot of really good links. I'm going to check them out too.

Debbie, sorry to hear you are down. You sound like you need a ME break for sure! Way to be a super mom and bake all those cupcakes for the bake sale!

Welcome to CharliesAngel and Bridgette! Glad you found us here in our little home.

I am way over on my calories today. I made "faux" fried ice cream, and I couldn't say no to a BIG serving...plus all the licks of the spoon as I was making it. I'm not going to beat myself up over it though. I usually have 1 or 2 high days a week, so I'll just be more diligent the rest of the week. Man was it ever tasty! This was one of the "treats in moderation" for my family. My daughter was right...it's called self control. I didn't show any today.

My protein was way up today though. And considering how much ice cream I had, my overall carbs were not terrible for my range. Fiber was so so and sat fats were kind of high, again, due to the ice cream I think. I hope the ice cream is gone soon. I don't want it hanging out in the freezer, quietly, persistently calling my name.

Have a good night everyone!

We bought groceries today and along with all the good for me stuff there is a lot of other stuff for the guys. (ice cream, pie, cookies, and my favorite,
Australian black licorice, my son and I ate the whole bag.) How do you make
faux fried ice cream?
We don't have the luxury of switching doctors. A lot of people don't have a doctor because there aren't enough. We will have to wait till he retires before we can go to some one else and he is younger than me.
Cheer up Debbie, spring weather is almost here. You are super woman with all you do in a day. You deserve some serious Me time.

Dr appointment this morning to go over results from bloodwork. Fingers crossed it's not as bad as I think it is!

I am just ravenous this morning. It must be the licorice I ate last night. I am going to have a bowl of oat meal with cinnamon and berries and a cup of coffee with chocolate soy milk for breakfast. That should hold me till lunch time
I am going on a sewing retreat on Saturday and will be working on a quilt so I have been going through my stash and magazines for ideas but nothing is appealing to me right now. I need some new ideas.
My weight is still coming down and I have lost about half of what I regained.
I hope to get some grapefruit today and maybe the water weight will come off faster.
The treadmill is calling my name and I better get to it before the urge goes away. Make it a great day.
Good luck Jenn.

I'm working on a list of non-meat protein sources that are not too high in saturated fat or carbs. So far I have:
tempeh and tofu
nuts, especially almonds and walnuts
nut butters such as lower sat fat and zero or low sugar peanut, almond and soy nut butter
seeds especially pumpkin and sunflower
reduced fat cheeses
fat free yogurt
beans (the only ones I can have are black soybeans)
ground flaxseed
some veggies: sun dried tomatoes spinach, brussels sprouts and broccoli.
egg whites and non-shell, zero cholesterol egg blends such as Egg Beaters (Thanks, Kathy.)

If anyone can add any more low saturated fat and very low carb sources for non-meat protein, please let me know. Thanks.

Jenn, I'm rooting for you to have good blood test results. Let us know how it went.

Libby, congrats on a great Tuesday report. So sorry to learn you are stuck with your doctor. I am rooting for you to be able to "soften him up" a little. Maybe he'd be willing to let you do partial control through diet and reduce your meds. I've heard and read that in the USA most doctors are taught mainly what tests to order, how to diagnose, and what meds to prescribe under the assumption that the majority of patients don't have the self-discipline to do self-help. Your breakfast sounds both healthful and yummy. Best wishes on your quilt ideas and enjoy your retreat! Kudos on your weight going back down. Enjoy the treadmill.

Jenai, I sometimes get mixed up between who said what. Good thing I double-checked my post yeaterday because I had done it again. Those low cholesterol articles are pretty basic things, but I hope you are rewarded with some useful info for checking them out. I'm glad you enjoyed your "fried ice cream." What is the main ingredient in it? I skidded by with normal blood sugar after having eating a few real store-bought snack cakes over the past three months. LOL on the wise daughter.

Hi ladies, thanks for the warm welcome.

Mern, thanks for the kind words, I couldn't imagine going through a full term only to have baby leave at 26 days old. That's horrific. My husband was relieved that because it did have a rare condition we didn't have to make hard choices during the 12 week scan, nature took care of things. We shall try again. Your doc sounds great, not many go over and above writing out prescriptions these days.
Funny, I hadn't read yours/Jenai's post for spaghetti squash but just picked up 2 as they were on sale the other day. Will have to look at that, its a great alternative to pasta.

simplybea, I'm in Calgary. So many people saying it's been the worst year ever. Flooding last spring, terribly cold winter (this feb made a record 20 year cold), I hope you see some warm spring sun soon!

Bridgette all the best with planning your wedding. When I had mine in 2007 I managed to lose 35 lbs and never felt better. There's no better motivation than being the star of your own wedding to shave off the pounds. All the best!

Jenn how did the bloodwork go? I've got appts next week to go over 45 vials of bloodwork that we sent to a specialist in the States (Dr. Beers). I'm sure it's much different reasons for yours however I wish you good results. After I miscarried in feb we did reproductive immunology testing, can't do another European IVF trip without making sure I know everything there is to know about why I've been so darned unsuccessful. I want a family of 4 kids! Very excited for the results next Thursday.

Libby go thrash that treadmill. Last night it felt like I was the one that got the thrashing lol.

Kathy & lildebbieg hi!

AFM, did my yoga class monday, kickboxing tuesday, went to work out last night too (1 hr cardio, 1/2 hour weights). Calorie count over Monday & Tuesday was 1000 and no weight loss still. This is frustrating. So I'm going to do the plateau diet for 10 days and see if I can't break this stagnancy. Plateau diet is just keeping carb count under 25 each day. It's meant to work really well while still giving you enough fuel for workouts. I need that scale to break! I wish at least the body fat gauge on it was working so I can see what's going on. It used to be that whenever nothing happened I'd see the body fat move. Now there's just an error message.

Libby, you asked about the faux fried ice cream. Real fried ice cream is a very hard frozen ball of ice cream, coated in sugared corn flakes and thrown down into a deep fryer to get the coating crispy. My fried ice cream was semi-thawed vanilla ice cream (I should have used reduced fat at least lol) mixed with whipped cream and cinnamon. Then in a skillet you melt butter, add sugar and fry the crushed corn flakes for a few minutes. You put part of the corn flakes down into a pan, pour over the ice cream, and then top with the cornflakes and refreeze. 1 serving is about 270 or so calories. Not light! maybe it could be made lighter with reduced fat ice cream, light whipped cream, butter sub and perhaps a mixture of part sugar and part stevia? I don't know how well stevia holds up in a hot pan or if it has the same candy affect as sugar though. The coating on my fried ice cream got a tad soft after being in the freezer overnight, but it still has plenty of crunch and it is oh so delicious. I can't wait for the crap to be eaten (by someone other than me!) and out of the freezer! lol

Hi everyone. Just back from Dr office.
A1C was higher than I thought at 8.4. I had been averaging 7.4 since diagnosed so that isn't a good number. I has gone up by 1 in a year. Weight was up a couple of pounds. BP was 127/75 which for me is good!! My bad cholesterol was down. Not sure of number without looking it up (he printed me out the results) but it's certainly nothing I'm doing on purpose.

So basically I have to work at eating healthier and losing weight!! I have to get back to exercising 5X a week. Dr did say that it would be good if I lost 20 lbs. I need to lose a lot more but he said the numbers would improve. Lots of stuff to discuss with dietician when I go. I think if I tried to do a much lower carb diet it would help.
