Motivational Thread Starting 12/16/2013

I have never joined the Motivational Threads because I have always been involved in a "fitness" challenge on another forum but I was banned! I would love to be part of this thread. And MERN PLEASE COME BACK!!!

Soooo, I am starting the new thread for this week. I realize it is Tuesday but since I am still up it is Monday plus the last thread was dated Dec. 9th!:p

My goals for the week are... Monday - Saturday

1. Run 4 days Mon/Yes
2. Lift heavy 3 days Mon/Yes
3. Eat 1100-1200 cals Mon/Yes
4. Check P.O. Box at least once this week Mon/No
5. 6 hours sleep Ha will know tomorrow!
6. Ignore ex He used our sick, retarded kitten as excuse to call and text 3 times today, I did not call him back so Mon/Yes!
7. Accept 1 date Mon/said maybe
8. Make 10 dozen buttermilk xmas cookies Mon/5 dozen done!
Also, am I the only one who just isn't excited about Christmas this year?

jjrudd 12-17-2013 02:33 AM

Thanks vabeachgirlNYC for starting us off. Yeah, that was me who started it on Tues last week.

GOALS
1. Clean the house--including emptying out the fridge and wiping it out (yuck)
2. Purchase presents
3. Drink 6 glasses of water a day
4. Exercise 5X
5. Eat healthier

You are not the only one that isn't feeling the Christmas spirit. Christmas is the time when I miss loved ones who have passed. My sister loved Christmas and we always shared in the preparations--this year there is no tree, no decorations and I'm ok with that. Plus my brother will be going to his wife's family for Christmas again so Mom and I will be alone.

Jennifer

01gt4.6 12-17-2013 03:43 AM

OMG if Vabeachgirl is going to join, that means I may have to join.

After being out of the gym (due to my back) for a couple months, I joined a (different) gym yesterday, so I guess I can make that a goal and scratch it off my list. :)

I'm going easy on the goals since I've been a major slacker lately, baby steps... baby steps. ;)

DONE1) join the gym yes
2) workout 3 times yes
3) drink a lot of water no

01gt4.6 12-17-2013 03:58 AM

Vabeach, I'm not in the Christmas spirit, however, I'd bet that some buttermilk cookies could change that. Poor retarded kitty... wait, aren't all kitties retarded?;) Good job on the strong start.

Jennifer, nice set of goals you have there. How about this, I'll increase my workout from 3 to 4 if you increase your water from 6 to 7?

LMB2011 12-17-2013 05:03 AM

Hi everyone! Since I'm not very good at sticking to goals I will give this a try. For my first goal I will make it as simple as just logging my food daily.

vabeachgirlNYC 12-17-2013 06:21 AM

jjrudd, Mon? Tues? It's all the same to me intil Friday gets here lol! I love the weekends!

I also think about those that I will not see again. I will miss how Christmas used to be. So sorry about your sister. I'm sure your mom appreciates that you will be spending Christmas together.

01gt4.6, my kitten really is retarded. Mentally and physically stunted. Now labled as kitty down syndrome. Makes her super sweet and cuddly.

Glad to hear you joined another gym. Whats up with not drinking enough water? I probably drank too much washing down the 2 buttermilk cookies I ate last night.:D

LMB2011, I think it's smart to make a simple goal when it's such a good one!

I gave in on my #6 goal and texted my ex to update him because it was the right thing to do. Kitty is almost one and only weighs 4 pounds and not doing as well as I hoped. Her small size makes it harder for her body to fight off being sick.

Mern 12-17-2013 11:01 AM

vabeachgirl, I am coming back. Thanks. Just haven't got around to posting--stuff going on. Will post more tomorrow.

Jennifer, big hug to ya. I know it's hard. I so miss my sis, too, but she loved Christmas so much that I believe she'd find a Heavenly way to whop me upside the head if I didn't put up my tree. Her daughters joke that she's probably driving the angels nuts trying to put silver tinsel and glitter all over their wings and on the Pearly Gates. :)

Mike, LOL on the kitty. Congrats on joining a different gym.

LMB, welcome. :) Congrats on being down on the scale each year and for starting out with simple goals.

Everyone, congrats on posting your goals. I'll do mine tomorrow. It will probably be more in baby steps toward resuming exercise, though, rather than committment to not indulging in the Christmas goodies. I will try to not binge eat carbs, though.

vabeachgirlNYC 12-17-2013 11:57 AM

Yay! Hi Mern!!!

Mern 12-17-2013 01:22 PM

Hi, vabeachgirl :)

"Just do it." Such good advice--my same ol', lame ol' excuses just don't cut it.

I have always told myself to Just Do IT, because no one else is going to do it for me! A very wise man told me to instead think... I Will Do This.

So I do, not just my health and fitness but everything I do... because I am worth it.

jjrudd, I guess I did your "clean out the fridge" goal too, YUCK!

Mern, I lol'd at
your nieces saying their mom was probably trying to put "tinsel and glitter all over their wings and on the Pearly Gates".

01gt4.6, post up slacker.

LMB2011, post up! Don't be a slacker like you know who...:D

vabeachgirlNYC 12-17-2013 07:50 PM

I should be in bed but I did an extra set of lifting because I can't sleep. Worried about my sick little cat. I do animal rescue so I am used to sick animals but my ex bf and I actually adopted this one. I am very attached to her (I also have 7 dogs/8 cats/kittens and a bird right now) One of my dogs is snoring like a man which is cracking me up! Another one is woofing in her sleep, too cute... I have one laying at my feet and another one in my lap plus 2 cats that are wrapped around my laptop making it hard to type. And hard to go to bed so I can reach my sleep goal, lol. :o

poor kitty. :(

Welcome back Mern!

Mern 12-18-2013 05:04 AM

My checkup at the doctor went way better than I expected. For those of you who don't know me, my doc worked with me for the past 2 1/2 years to help me develop a personalized eating plan to successfully reverse my pre-diabetes and high cholesterol to normal through diet alone, no meds. I didn't lose any weight over the past three months, but gained only one pound. Even though I hadn't logged my food for the better part of those three months, my fasting blood sugar and A1C (average blood sugar) are in the normal range. Doc decided to skip the cholesterol test because I've been doing so well in that area that she thinks it's OK to test me only every six months. But I still want my blood sugar tested every three-four months because Type II diabetes runs so heavily in my family.

Doc doesn't preach to me--she coaxes me back on track through listening to my own words. After complimenting me on achieving a healthful carb and cholesterol intake lifestyle, and gaining only one pound over the past three months, she asked WHY I gained a pound. I told her I need to increase my protein because I let it drop; and that I haven't been exercising and that none of my explanations as to why I haven't been exercising are valid excuses. Doc asked if I could promise myself that I'd exercise three times a week for the next month or so and increase it as I am able. And I said I could.

THEN I came home to find vabeachgirl's post to think "I WILL do it" ... "because I am worth it." :)

My simple goals for the rest of this week are to work my way back up to 64 oz. water per day and to exercise two days.

Vabeachgirl, kudos on your Monday and Tuesday accomplishments on goals 1-3 and on the extra lifting. Sorry about your pickled cookie dough! Aw, I understand your attachments to the rescued pets. My little sister also has a house full of rescued pets--three dogs, two cats and then a store-bought bunny. I hope your cat gets better soon.

Jenn, best wishes on your goals. Oops, I forgot until I saw your water goal that I've been slacking on water.

Mern 12-18-2013 05:06 AM

Thanks for the welcome back, Mike. Best wishes to you on your goals this week. :)

jjrudd 12-18-2013 07:52 AM

Fridge is all clean--found some stuff in the back of the fridge EWW. Garbage day is tomorrow and will be last one until after Christmas so everything is out! I'm going to count going up and down stairs and lugging 2 full bags of garbage out to the curb as half on my exercise for today!

Congrats Mern on a fairly good report from the Dr. I need to buy more fruits and veggies tomorrow. I know I have been eating too many carbs and it shows in my blood sugar readings. I hopped on the scale on mon and lost half a pound.
Jenn

Mern, glad to hear the news was good on your dr. appointment! I remember when my doctor told me if I lost about 7 pounds I would be perfect. I kind of wanted to kick him! BUT he really cared and was kind of old school and HONEST! Haha!

And you know what? All of us are worth it even when we don't feel like we are, right? RIGHT???

jjrudd, congrats on the half pound loss! Should I even ask what you found in your fridge? I am always hoping I find "something" in the back of my fridge or cabinet when I get a craving but I never find anything I didn't already know about!

LMB2011, where did you go?

01gt4.6, What's going on with your lack of water? Stop eating that cake/cookie/wtfe and post up slackerboy.

libby116 12-19-2013 03:29 AM

Hi all. Better late than never. I walked for 30 min on the treadmill this morning and I hope to do another 30 tonight. I need to get back on track and making progress.

Mern 12-19-2013 08:51 AM

Jenn, woohoo on the 1/2 lb. loss! And congrats on all the exercise you got with your chores. Now come clean MY fridge! Good idea on stocking up on the low carb fruits. I could surely use some fresh strawberries and canteloupe.

vabeachgirl, nice report. I know TBD means to be done. What does TBH mean?--or was that a typo" I know what wtfe means, though. LOL Mike is usually good on the food porn, so I suspect he'll fess up a list of wtfe he ate. Your old school, honest doc sounds sweet. Very gentle and diplomatic way to enrourage that little 7 lb. loss.

Libby, VERY NICE job on your walking!

01gt4.6 12-19-2013 11:02 AM

DONE1) join the gym yes
2) workout 3 times yes,no,yes
3) drink a lot of water no,no,yes

libby116 12-19-2013 01:05 PM

I did 60 minutes of walking on the treadmill today. My calories were under my limit but I need to drink more water. It was a good day.

vabeachgirlNYC 12-19-2013 04:03 PM

My goals for the week are... Monday - Saturday

1. Run 4 days Mon/Yes, Tues/Yes, Wed/Yes, Thurs/Yes
2. Lift heavy 3 days Mon/Yes, Tues/Yes, Wed/Yes, Thurs/No
3. Eat 1100-1200 cals Mon/Yes, Tues/Yes (1108), Wed/No (1005), Thurs/No (1365)
4. Check P.O. Box at least once this week Mon/No, Tues/No, Wed/YES!!!
5. 6 hours sleep Mon/Yes, Tues/Yes, Wed/Yes, Thurs/Yes
6. Ignore ex Mon/Yes, Tues/No dropping goal, too mean because of sick cat, Wed/uggg, ignored phone... Thurs/ignored (I feel mean)
7. Accept 1 date Mon/said maybe, Tues/No, Wed/TBH, I really don't want to.:( Thurs/No
8. Make 10 dozen buttermilk xmas cookies Mon/5 dozen done!, Tues/No, a pickle jar fell over, soaked the chilling dough so had to toss the rest of it. Wed/No, it's a real PITA making the dough! Thurs/Got the big bowl out!

Missed my calorie goal yesterday because a foster cat stole some of my tofu dogs right off the stove. She KNOWS cats are not allowed on my counters! I thought a dog did it but they all looked innocent. I found the cat with the evidence upstairs. I can't believe she managed to get by all the dogs with it.

libby116, nice job on getting another 30 minutes of walking in!

Mern, my doctor was biased, he should have said at least 17 pounds, lol. TBH means to be honest. So TBH, the closer I get to my ideal weight the harder it is to actually get there even when doing everything right. Running seems to maintain my weight but lifting is what gives me the shape I want. I would love to lose another 7-10 lbs but I also want to build more muscle mass because I like the definition it gives me.

01gt4.6, glad to see you hit that water goal! So Mern and I are waiting...

Sorry ladies, no food porn yet. I haven't really eaten anything that's worthy of a pornographic description. That's not to say that I've been eating good, trust me I haven't.:( I guess if I started logging my food again, I'd be able to remember what I've shoved down my pie hole, but nothing is standing out at the moment.

01gt4.6 12-20-2013 02:35 PM

After being fat and lazy for a couple months, I finally made it back to the gym. I hit it up 3 times. I'm still fat but at least I'm a little less lazy. Even though I'm fresh at it, I still pushed pretty hard. I'm still sore from Monday's workout. I lost a little strength but not near what I expected. I'm working out with a different friend and my lifts are waaaay higher than his. I expected him to be as strong as me (or close) because we're about the same size but he's not. I hate to say it but it kinda makes me feel good.:D Now I'm going to try to push him hard to get him stronger b/c I don't think he's really been pushed.

01gt4.6 12-20-2013 02:51 PM

I can't believe I forgot to mention this (with all the animal talk)... Last month I drove out to Texas and picked up a pup at a shelter. Yes... I drove 12+ hours to give this baby a home. He's the sweetest little thing. His name is Avery and he's a real lady killer!

He's unbelievably smart. It took all of 2 minutes to tech him how to you the doggie door. The youngest of the chirrens already taught him how to sit, shake and lie down on command. He is super loveable. He was a little skittish when I first put him in the grass, I don't think he knew what it was. Now he runs around the yard like he owns it.

He loves to play rough with Chloe', our 70+ pound boxer. Mytsie (our Chihuahua/Jack Russell mix) is starting to warm up to him. She's always been nervous around others. Somehow Avery (aka Houdini) escaped through a section in the fence. I guess Chloe' wasn't big enough to torment so he tracked down a great dane on the street behind us. So yesterday I spent a good part of my day redoing the fence so the little sucker doesn't wander off again.

It was a gorgeous day/night at the beach tonight! Even at 2:30 AM
it was WARM! It was kind of funny seeing all the xmas boardwalk lights when we were all dressed in "summerish" clothes.

01gt4.6, he is adorable! How much does he weigh? This is the baby I just adopted. He is probably about 90 pounds right but is still growing. I don't need your food porn, I have pepperment bark gelato in my freezer!:p

I can't believe how warm it is here! I'm meeting people at the beach later but I think I'm gonna skip going out tonight. I'm dragging this morning, been staying out way too late.

I decided to weigh myself today and you know that joke "single women come home, see what's in the fridge and go to bed..."? So true, I am 3 pounds away from my "pre relationship" weight! I was kind of shocked. Unfortunately my Body Fat is about 2% higher then it was before at the same weight so I am going to focus on increasing my lifts so I can get back to my former BF%.

Where did everyone go?

Funny you should ask. When we got him they thought he was 8 months old and that he'd stay pretty small (9 pounds or so). Well, since they thought he was 8mos, they also thought he had been neutered before they got him. Well about a week after getting him, I took him to the vet. He weighed in at 8 pounds 6 oz. and they put him at ~16 weeks old. Then we found out that his little marbles hadn't dropped yet and that he wasn't fixed. The following week he went back to get fixed and was already 9 pounds 1 ounce! He gained 1/2 pound in one week. We weighed him at the house the other day (which isn't too accurate) and he's already over 11 pounds. He eats like a horse so there's no telling how big he's going to get. We got him for the youngest because she wanted a small lap dog like Mytsie (which is full grown at 9 pounds). She may end up with a not-so-small lap dog. The only issue I see is that she wanted him to be "her" dog. She'll be in college in a couple years and it's hard enough finding a place that will let you have a <10 pound dog, let alone a bigger one. :( I guess she have to come on the weekends to visit him when the time comes.

Great job on the week. +2% BF is nothing. I'm probably up 10%. Part of me feels like I wasted all my hard work, then the other part of me knows it's more fun to eat and gain, then bust ass and lose as opposed to maintaining. So I know I'll get back to where I was.

It's usually slow here on the weekends. We may start have to adding in some weekend challenges. ;)

vabeachgirlNYC 12-23-2013 03:17 PM

I was satisfied with my goals this week except for going out too much (I went out again last night, didn't plan on it but better than staying in I guess) and being higher on carbs than normal. My average for the week was 1127 cals a day, macros about 30/30/30.

I took a bunch of my dogs to the beach yesterday afternoon. It was a gorgeous day here. I ran and walked in the sand and surf with them (a killer leg workout) and just let go of all my stress and really enjoyed letting myself forget about life for a while, my dogs acted like perfect angels, I haven't had them off leash at the beach in a while, no one tried to run off and they listened to all of my commands even though one really wanted to run after the horses on the beach. He actually stopped when I whistled. I think they kept expecting my ex to show up because we always went together. They were pretty attached to him and are confused/miss him.

It's not easy being newly single right before the Holidays, wish I could just skip it all this year, but I have a great family and amazing friends who refuse to let me. I do realize how lucky I am because it would suck if my only options were to spend it alone or (even though I enjoy meeting new people) with some new guy I barely know. It is pretty cool reconnecting with the some of the people I haven't seen in a while plus I have family and friends who have come in from several different countries and as far away as CA in the states for xmas. I am hating the ex bf questions/conversations and refuse to discuss it. I will never understand men and that's all I'm gonna say. Maybe FitDay should have a Relationships forum haha!

I still need to finish wrapping gifts and finish the baking tonight, uggg. Not going out tonight! It's rainy, super windy and yucky so was easy to resist this time, lol.:D

01gt4.6, funny about your new puppy! Already over 11 pounds? Didn't you just get him?!

Having a 2% higher BF is NOT nothing at this same weight, it's a whole jean size for me. I don't believe you are up 10%.

jjrudd 12-24-2013 03:31 AM

I'm trying to eat reasonably healthy this week.
Had peppermint mocha at Starbucks yesterday and went to bed and had awful indigestion--not sure if it was from that but I really didn't eat too much yesterday so probably was.
Going to make a pumpkin pie this afternoon and wrap a present I got for my Mom. Kind of a crazy Christmas--my brother is currently at his in-laws because they don't have power due to ice storm in Toronto. Just me and my Mom this year but it's ok--quiet. We went grocery shopping this morning--a mad house. Bought lots of veggies and will make my own tray. $12 for a few pieces of assorted stuff in a pre-packaged tray when brocolli was 99 cents a head. We usually have turkey at 12:30pm and then have light meal at 6pm.

Jenn

Mern 12-24-2013 04:59 AM

Merry Christmas, everyone! :)

libby116 12-24-2013 06:47 AM

Hi all. Our internet cable and phone were out for 3 days. We had an awful ice storm and it turned every thing into a skating rink. At least we didn't lose our electricity. After Christmas I will get back into eating right and exercising.
Have a Merry Christmas.

Having a 2% higher BF is NOT nothing at this same weight, it's a whole jean size for me. I don't believe you are up 10%.

Yeah, not too long ago. Maybe a month now.

I'm up 30-40 pounds, probably mid 20's for bf%. So probably more than 10% up. :o

Figured out indigestion was caused by new medication that I was put on for diabetes. I was on metformin and it didn't agree with my stomach now this one is giving me indigestion. Pharmacist is usually helpful but he just thought it was big eating at Christmas. Hardly since it's just me and Mom!
Will email the nurse at diabetes centre after Christmas. They are more helpful than my Drs.

Feeling a little sad but trying to put some effort into it even if it is just me and Mom.
Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas.

Jenn

Merry Christmas everyone!

I did pretty well today. I only had one cookie, one really small piece of fudge and a few drinks!:D I ate super clean other than that junk! My cals for the day are 1142 but my macros are way off track because of the high carbs. Made me get a burning feeling in my throat. Not doing that tomorrow!

It got cold enough today to put a hoodie on! If it can't be hot and sunny then I want the snow! :p
