Motivational Thread Starting 12/9/13

Good morning everyone. I know today is Tues but since we start on Mon I back dated it.
I have been doing pretty well food wise lately so I want to keep it up as holidays are coming.

GOALS
1. Drink 6 glasses of water (at least)
2. Stay within carb limit
3. Eat more fruits and veggies

Personal goals
1. Start on Christmas cards
2. Clean kitchen (AGAIN)
3. Try to find some joy in the season

Jenn

P.S. I got date wrong--could somebody correct it for me?

Robingen 12-04-2013 12:28 PM

Hey Jenn

Good to see you. I haven't been on much since I reached my goal in August but I thought I would stop by and say hello. BTW you did the Canadian format on the date. So it's not wrong just not consistent with previous ones:)

Congratulations on sticking with the weekly motivation thread. I hope it's progressing well for you.

As far as joy in the season, well I say make some. Do something special that reflects your views on the holiday spirit. Lately I've made pies for Christmas dinner at the soup kitchen. I'm sure you can find something that feels "worthwhile".

Have a good week!

Thanks Robin. Yes, I find I need the motivation or at least the goals in my mind to know what works for me. I'm doing much better on remembering to drink water.
I've lost 2lbs this week. I did try to eat healthy when I was away so it makes me feel good that I did.

Hope you have a good Christmas if I don't talk to you before.

Hi there jjrudd :) There are a few of us who are doing a New Year Challenge. We're setting a goal for New Year's Eve and then trying our best to reach it! We're also doing a 12 Week Workout challenge! We're aiming to workout for 84 days straight. Doesn't have to be crazy stuff, just get your body moving enough to raise the heart rate. We're also weighing and checking in on Fridays. Please feel free to join us for support and motivation! :)

A shout out from Robin brought me back home.

I have not been exercising and not drinking enough water, but I have been watching my blood sugar and cholesterol. I have not lost any weight since my last weight recorded here of 234 on 9/11/2013. Beats the heck out of gaining, though.

I have a doctor appointment Dec. 18 for just a weigh-in and cholesterol check and she will not be pleased. But I did remind myself it's my body and I am a grown woman who is ultimately responsible only to myself. So it's myself whom I've let down.

But it's never too late to restart and get back on track, so here I am.

Looking forward to catching up with my old pals and meeting new ones here. :)

Hi Mern--missed you and welcome back!
My blood sugars have been all over the place since I got back from my weekend away. Eating at irregular times and I skipped lunch because of transportation issues (a long story). Slowly starting to get back to normal.
Mern I was supposed to go and see my family Dr in the fall. Around the time I would have my Mom got cellulitis--very bad infection in leg. needless to say I haven't had time so yeah my specialist won't be pleased. But as you say it's my health and I'm the one responsible for what goes into my body. Thank goodness I don't have to go until the middle of Feb!!

Mern 12-08-2013 05:11 AM

Hi, Jenn! Thanks for the welcome back.

Glad you're getting your blood sugar back on track. I should have known (but didn't until recently) that keeping blood sugar stable throughout the day will also aid in weight loss. Makes sense since excess blood sugar can get stored as fat--which is the primary reason for my obesity. I think that's a pretty accurate statement, even though I do admit to an occasional binge. So many people think all obesity is caused by eating like pigs all the time.

I've heard that cellulitis is awfully painful as well as dangerous. Is your Mom OK now? I understand the difficulty of your staying on track with diet when family issues are pressing.

The middle of February is a decent amount of time to get your numbers back on track. I'll bet you'll make good progress. :)

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

done :)

Thanks Mike. I think I'll just use the same goals this week.
Mern, she's better now but still has occasional twinges in her leg. My brother lives 2 hrs away from us and unfortunately my Mom can't do the stairs at his house. His stairs curve and have no railing at the landing (just a post)--ours are carpeted, less stairs and go straight up. So...we won't be seeing them at Christmas. For whatever reason he is not willing to compromise and come here. Makes me sad that I won't see my niece for Christmas but it is what it is.

Hi all. I think I am coming down with some thing. My head and back were aching this morning. I just can't get warm. It might be the flu bug going around. Stay well all.

canary52 12-10-2013 04:05 AM

Hi Guys,

Thought I'd join the reunion! Robin brought me back too. She's gathering the flock lol. Thanks for the PM, honey! Good to see you guys here! Libby, I hope you feel better!

Maybe I can have modest goals:
1) drink more water
2) stretch
3) try not to eat too much after 8 pm

I am finding more joy in this season by doing less. I think that all the gift giving, shopping, food, etc. is nice - to a point. Then it becomes stressful and overdone. For me. I have done this so much, so this year: simple. Another goal, I guess.

libby116 12-14-2013 05:49 AM

Hi all. I am feeling better and have been exercising for 3 days straight. I hope to be down to 166 by New Year's Day. It's easier to keep the weight off than to gain and have to take it off again. My neighbours daughter is getting married in November of 2014 and I want to lose another 20 pounds by then.
That will put me at 146 which I haven't seen in 15 years. I hope I can make it.
Where is every body?

jjrudd 12-15-2013 03:11 AM

Hi Libby. I'm still here--this week has been busy with Christmas preparations.
I did get my exercise in today with half an hour shovelling snow. Congrats on the 3 days of exercise. I need to get into more of a routine myself.

Trying to stick with my goals, but it's so freakin' hard right now with holiday family gatherings, birthday parties, etc. Doc appointment Wednesday won't be good as far as weight loss goes. Haven't lost an ounce in three months.

libby116 12-16-2013 12:35 PM

Hi Mern. Glad to see you back. I feel like I am spinning my wheels getting no where but then I think of where I would be if I hadn't started in January.
Hang in there. The holidays will soon be over.
