Healthiest Foods Picked by Nutritionists
Came across this on WebMD.
How many of these are you currently in the habit of eating? I'm down for 4 out of 6. And after reading this I'm going to start eating red cabbage. By the way. I think yogurt is a phenomenal food, and I eat 12 ounces every day religiously. But I think too much is made of Greek Yogurt. Everybody raves about the extra protein. I add wheat germ to my yogurt for extra benefits. Quote:

I probably don't eat enough beans/lentils to benefit from them and I very very rarely eat canned tomatoes. If my plan works out and I have enough home grown maters to can this year though that will change.

Thanks as always for providing the information, Vito.
I just want to comment (admittedly, this is a personal soapbox)...that you can find anything on the internet anywhere to support just about any point of view, so take everything you read with a grain of salt! There are a ton of lists of completely different most nutritional foods you should be eating, and last week I saw canned tomatoes on a list of "foods you should never eat". http://www.prevention.com/food/healt...ross-your-lips So, as a public service reminder, do your own research, use common sense, and above all, do what works for you (and be honest with yourself in doing that :)). BTW, I have 4/6 as well, and canned tomatoes are a staple at my house! |

Yeah, I thought "canned" tomatoes was odd. I know tomatoes themselves are very healthy and I couldn't figure out why they specified "canned". I've heard this problem about canned tomatoes myself before. Speaking of my own research, the more I've learned about soybeans the more horrified I've become. I only eat one tablespoon a day now instead of the 4-6 I had been consuming. And even at one Tbsp I'm leery. Probably me making this statement against soy will now bring out all the defenders of soy to blast me. But I'm confident that eating unfermented soy and soy products, even if they're organic, is one of the biggest scams in the food industry right now, right up there with HFCS. |
Can you give me a link to an article that explains your concerns with soy? I'm not pro or con soy products. I don't know enough about it either way.

Sure. Here's a great video by Dr. Mercola. If you're not familiar with his website, do yourself a favor and join for free. He's a no nonsense advocate for health. Here's his video uploaded to YouTube: Dangers of Soy |
I also have a problem with canned foods, not just tomatoes; BPA is the reason.
AVOID tinned foods BPA (Bisphenol-A ) in the gold lining, leaches into the foods (acidic ones being the worst) What is BPA? Should I be worried about it? - MayoClinic.com (A fishing friend's daughter (23 years old) is very ill and could possibly die, due to frequently eating tinned food. She has now moved back home, basically expecting to die. She needs a detox under the supervision of a Naturapathic doctor. |
That is a pretty good list. And they are pretty delicious too.
|
I'm pretty sure anything tomato-based in a can is not good due to BPA.
Odd list, and wondering if it's sponsored by a food company that makes Greek yogurt??? I would add Avocados, Coconut, & Kelp in their places. |
I don't really do this most of the time because usually the calorie estimates on the box are close enough, but there is a way to calculate about how many calories are really in your frozen dinner....
