A "sticky" is a thread that is "stuck" or "pinned" to the top of a sub forum. This is a fairly new development here. Generally stickies are very popular topics, FAQs, important message and the like.
My Unisex 100 Pounds to Lose thread in Weightloss Tips is "stickied", for instance (and there may be others).
