And the last 2 mile uphill was over before I expected - also ran/shuffled the whole way. The last 1/2 mile to the finish line was/is a total battle not to walk - steeply uphill. But I overcame the demons .

2nd in age. I have no idea where #1 was - 3 minutes in front. I never saw her.

Whooo hoooo!
Very good run. Most likely you were slightly overtrained and the missed workouts allowed you to recover rather than lessening your fitness.

Abebe Bikila (winner of the 1960 Olympic Marathon) underwent an appendectomy 40 days before the 1964 Olympic Marathon. He won with a new world record and beat the silver medalist by 4:18.

I think you are right about overtraining. I suspect when I am in my exercise groove, I am in a pertetual state of "slightly overtraining" .

Default First 10K

Late last year I finally decided to get off my duff and get running. Besides field day in grade school I don't think I ever ran a race, certainly I haven't run one as an adult. Well, last week I ran my first one in the Saint Michaels Running Festival in Saint Michaels, Maryland. I wanted to finish in under an hour and finished in 58:23. Considering that back in December I couldn't run a 10 minute mile on a treadmill for more than a few minutes that says a lot. Now I'm shooting for a half marathon in October. I'm leaning heavily toward the Jeff Galloway training program but I'm weighing my options.

Great job Hank & Welcome!

I ran the 10k in 50:14-the official results aren't posted yet, but it was a nice course with rolling hills along the bike trail of Lake Natoma. The race started @ 9am and the temps were in the mid 70's, but I've been conditioning myself for this type of weather so all went well.
I'm hoping to get under 50min at the next race...

Well done both of you!

I got a nice 7.5 mile trail run in on Sunday. We started at 7:30 and it was pretty hot by the time we finished, but all 3 of us felt great!

New new new~ !!

I haven't been a good girl, and I have poor body shape to show for it. But starting this week, I decided to get back on track and tonight I walked for 2 miles. I only averaged about 2.06 MPH but it is definitely a start! Love Fitday!!
