okay people... I have a half marathon next Sunday and as usual I haven't trained. I'm thinking I should get in some walking this weekend or next week. How far is the farthest that I should walk?
Anyone have a one week training schedule? I'm not big on training, but I just need to get past the first 2-3 miles with no issues. After that it should be a cake walk.
I guess if this were coming from a new poster y'all would think it was a bogus post, coming from me you should know to expect it.

Mike, I'll answer this as if you asked" How can I properly taper for a long-distance race?" rather than "How can I further destroy myself?"
The fact is, at this point, there is nothing you can do to improve your fitness for the race. The fitness you have at 10 days out is the fitness you bring to the start line.
Taper: depending on your regular mileage, your taper should be 2-3 weeks. Heavy, marathon-type mileage requires a longer taper.
Two key workouts-last long run 2 weeks before with a 5-7 mile run at planned race pace at 10 days before.
Trade out tempo runs for tempo intervals, 3 workouts in the last two weeks.
(ex: 4 x1200 at tempo pace) These will maintain your lactate threshold and running efficiency. Last tempo workout 5 days before.
Otherwise, easy mileage and several rest days with a 4 x 800( 800 recovery) at planned race pace the day before the race.

Peer pressure...
So...my brother registered for the 2012 CIM (California International Marathon) and challenged me to do the same...I told him I would after I run my 1/2 in April.
So HC, Pam, what do you think? Should I go for it? It's mostly a downhill Marathon...

Yup, I agree - quite doable. But be warned that very long downhills can be even more taxing that long uphills. Also, you have lots of time to get the milage up so go slow to avoid injuries.
Keep up posted - we what to read the progress.
