I ran my last 5k race for this year...with a hangover
I don't recommend doing that
The weather was perfect- no wind and a brisk 34* temp.
Ran a 23:27 /7:34 pace and finished 28th of 233 and placed 7th in my age div.
The next race may be either New Year's day and/or in mid Jan.

Oh boy...I just re-read what I wrote yesterday and it sounds a lot worse than what it was.
The "hangover" was not the typical head pounding, wanting to throw up type, it was more like a 1 too many glasses of wine spacey feeling.
I typically don't drink the night before a race, but there was a sudden death in the family earlier this week (the S.O.'s uncle) and we were discussing the whole life and death thing and how she just saw him a day before he passed and we ended up drinking 1 1/2 bottles of wine through out our discussion.
He was great guy, RIP Uncle Phil.
The funeral services were also scheduled a couple of hours after my run, so it was an "interesting" day to say the least.
Pam, No, I'm not slipping back into old habits and thanks for being concerned

I'm sorry to hear about your relative passing away, sw07. It's understandable about the little hangover that's for sure.
My running is coming along. I'm slowing working up to the point that I can almost go 4 miles without stopping. Another few weeks and hopefully I'll be there. Once I do, there's no stopping me. Working on improving the time will be next.

Been off my training schedule - too many items on the todo list. But I expect to get back to it this weekend. The Death Valley race is about a month and a half away and I am still not quite comfortable with 13 miles - gotta get my butt on the trail.

Vito, you're a good candidate for a heart rate monitor. If you train by heart rate, your time will improve at the same rate as your fitness without forcing it/being tempted to "race" your workouts.
RbS, as long as you've done some 9-10 mile runs, you'll be fine on race day.
Taper and be well rested and adrenaline will carry you the rest of the way.

That's all I needed to hear. Now I'm going to start researching to purchase one. Thanks HC, much appreciated.

I use the Garmin 305 which has a heart rate monitor built in and can be used as a cycling computer. The 405 adds heart rate based calorie computation.
