The pedometer is a $5 digital from Walmart. It measures steps or distance. On Sunday when I took the dog for a walk, we got approximately 2 miles, and that is about right, so I guess maybe I do walk back and forth that much. I am not sure how going up or down stairs affect the pedometer. Maybe I should count steps instead?

Smile Better late than never

HI All.

Abby, that's a great time! It seems like most people shoot for under 30 min. for their first 5K and you achieved that goal. I know exactly how you feel about seeing your name in the results. Somehow it just makes it so much more real. Make sure you save that paper! It'll come in handy when you need a little inspiration. .

Mike, great job on the 1/2 mara! 3:03 is super. I remember you once noting that you weren't much of a runner, but you sure could walk fast! And you proved that.

SW, maybe god, or the universe was trying to tell you something . Sorry to see your injuries, but as our resident coach points out, a little rest might be beneficial in the long run.

HC, your advise and suggestions are so great. Thanks for adopting the team!

Welcome micklyons! great to have you aboard.

And Mai, slow down a little girl! Shin spints and heal pain are almost always due to over training! (How about that... you are such an active athelete that you are over training!) Rest and stretching as HC suggests usually does the trick for me.

And to anyone else I missed or who hasn't dropped into the tread yet, I hope your training is going well and that you have set a goal, whether it's a race or fitness objective.

I got back from a 3 day backpacking trip in the Eastern Sierras yesterday. We had a wonderful time, but need a couple of days to recuperate. The hike in was only 5 miles but ALL uphill, starting at 7200 feet and topping out a 10,000 feet (the oxygen gets mighty thin up there). On day 2 we day hiked over to another lake for trout fishing about 6 miles up and down and up again. And on the 3rd day we walked out. Now, one might think that an all downhill walk would be great, but most of the trail was like walking down 4 miles of stairs. Poor DH is really hurting this morning.

But the discomfort was definitely worth it. The scenery and solitude was glorious!

Not sure when the next run is likely to be, perhaps Sat or Sun.

Default Did someone mention this becomes addictive?

Pam, sounds like an amazing vacation - perfect spot!

So, I find myself looking at 5Ks - and a weekend which would be particularly nice is October 21... And, there is one almost in my backyard, for a cause I'd really like to support! I'll wait a bit to register, but cool!

I'm going to have to make a budget line item for entry fees! (I can move the funds from beer).

sw, I don't mind the signature, I think it's funny to see how big it has gotten.

Thanks Pam!

Just an update on my pain. I have been resting. And it's been raining cat and dog here so I did not have a chance to get out yet. But my pain seem so much better. I hope 1 more week, it's will go away so I can get back to training.

HC, Deep water running is very interesting. I have never heard of it. I definitely will try that this weekend.

Thanks everyone for supporting.

Yes Pam, I think you're right... Thanks to coach HC's advice, I've been resting & sleeping in instead of running and taking naps when I get home from work and I feel great. The lower back & toe injuries have gotten much better since Monday- I'm feeling like a short run after work today.
I've got a 9/11 Memorial 5k run on Sunday-sounds like a great course along the Sacramento River.
I also caught the last day for the early bird registration for an Octoberfest 5k on Oct 8th.

Seems like a lot of people are having some pains, including myself.

FYI I'm a big believer in neodymium magnet therapy. I've taped them on to my achilles tendons during sleep, and wear them around the house. I swear by them; I'm certain they aid healing in quick time.

It probably sounds whacked, but they really do help me. One time I got a wasp sting right on my earlobe. Pain killers did nothing. As soon as I taped a magnet to my earlobe, the pain dulled, making it bearable. I've used them for years with great results.

Anyway, just thought I'd throw this out there...

Actually Vito, it's not as crazy as it sounds. Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy is a proven therapy for fractures and there is evidence for it's use in soft tissue injuries.

I had a bone growth stimulator after my accident as my femur wasn't healing. Hard to tell how much it helped as I was non-weight bearing and that delays healing.

Be aware, the magnets Vito uses are dangerously strong. Magnets of more than a few centiimeters in diameter can crush tissue and even break bones. Be very careful with pairs or getting near metal.

HC, with all the iron I'm getting in my diet the magnets appear to be especially effective these days.

I've only got two right now, 1" x 1/8". They are capable of 11 pound lift.

I'm going to order a few 1/4" ones, capable of 22 pound lift (the strongest available)
