what's a p90x program?

?

mstamart 01-05-2010 03:01 PM

Hey there. I'm actually doing Shaun T's Insanity program (also by beach body). I was looking for someone who was doing Insanity to buddy with. I'am just coming off of lifting ( body pump/Les Mills) and needed to switch things up a bit and jump start my metabolisim. So now I lift very light and 2 days a week and do 6 days a week of HIIT/Plyometrics to lean out. I really like Fitday. I log my daily Insanity in the activity log. How is P90X going so far for you? Although you are doing a different program, I wouldn't mind swapping meal plan info with you, for me it is encouraging.

I recently finished my 1st round (90 days) of P90x, and started another. I haven't logged my workouts into fitday but that would probably help.

Wow good for you. It's a challenge for me to get past 3 consec days of 90x. You have good results?

I'm amazed at how much food the p90x nutrition plan says I can have. I''m almost scared to eat soo much. You see those oatmeal pancakes? I love oatmeal and pancakes! It seems I don't eat enough. I'm looking foward to following the eating plan, even if I can't get the p90-x work-outs in consec at home. My workouts at the gym are close to the same intenisity.

wydok 01-08-2010 05:56 AM

I will be starting up the regular old-school Power90 DVDs today. I highly doubt I will go through the whole nutritional program that goes with it since I've been doing well with it so far.

I've been tempted by P90x, but I already have the older DVDs I don't use, I'm probably not going to buy another new workout series.

Are you guys using the resistant bands or weights? I've have 5, 10, and 15lb weights, and will be picking up 20lb soon, but I've been thinking of getting bands instead. Which do you use. and do you like them?

shadog1962 01-10-2010 03:28 PM

P90x

Yes I'm doing P90x. I am at the end of week 1 of round 2. I have finished 2 rounds of Power 90 previous to that. I have had good success. I have lost 90 lbs between exercise and monitoring what I eat. I follow Michi's ladder, eating from mostly the top 2 tiers. I started this venture on Feb 2 2009 so it hasn't been quite a year yet. If you have any questions I maybe able to help or direct you where you can get help.

What do you use to input in the activities for each P90X workout?

What I am trying to say is. How do you know how many calories you are burning per session?

I am a new member here on fitday and have the p90x sitting here I just need to press play and bring it. I am trying to study the CDs since I will have to go off of memory and hand written notes. I live in a shipping container in Afghanistan and the gym does not accommodate this type of exercise.

KimmyRocks 01-22-2010 02:08 AM

Doesn't the program give you web access?

If memory serves, the program comes with access to the online community doing the program. You can find people there, yes?

I'd visit the site that [member funkyt] supplied the link for in an earlier comment...

I just used comparable exercises (MET) from the list on fitday. It is not an exact science so you may be a little off, in the long term it doesn't really matter that much as long as you are controlling your diet and bringing your own level of intensity. The tail of the tape is important as you lose fat and build muscle.

I personally am not using it, but, my son is and he is half the man he use to be. AMAZING results, he is 30 and was very diligent. So I just wanted to encourage you to go for it. I would probably have a heart attack, so I am going to stick to the gym and appropriate excercise for:) me. It works, good luck.:):)

I'm guessing you were referring to me? If so, yes I've had very good results. I'm sure some out there have done better but I couldn't be happier. I have a ton of videos on YouTube and this Sunday will have a new one out. I have friends that I haven't seen in a while think that I've photoshopped pics that I've sent them, I usually tell them to check out my videos.

Aubbie222 02-10-2010 04:41 PM

My fiancee followed p90x for a whole summer. I must say it worked. I thought he looked great before but this gave him more energy, cut his fat so fast, and toned him up well. One thing I did notice was that his testosterone level rose. He was more assertive and aggressive. I couldn't keep up with him lol.

karmenblack 02-15-2010 04:38 AM

Hi - I'm in the middle of Insanity and just learned about FitDay dwas hoping to track progress with this tool but can't figure out how to log workouts. I have heart rate monitor and trying to see if there is a way to customize workout - none of the other listed workouts seem to fit Insanity workouts. Am i missing a way to log this individually?

01gt4.6 02-16-2010 12:47 PM

my HRM usually shows me burning twice what I think I actually burn. If yours seems accurate you may just have to log it as circuit training but adjust the time so that it shows the correct calories. Out of curiosity how many calories does it show you burn with an insanity workout. I know Plyo for me shows like 1200+ cals but I know that can't be right.

mjstallworth 02-18-2010 08:24 AM

For those of you who are doing, or have done P90X, what do you think of a 48 yo woman who is about 50lbs overweight and extremely out of shape trying it?

I'm thinking of doing the "Lean" version, but I'm a bit afraid of it being too hard for me and giving up. I currently do a couple of different workout tapes, and I've not been able to finish more than 20 minutes at a time.

Am I setting myself up for failure?

Runnerchi 02-23-2010 06:34 AM

Any P90X Users?

My husband and I have started using the P90X and it's a fun butt-kicker! Just wondering if there are other P90X users out there...

I was looking for others who were on the P90X program too! I started mine 2 weeks ago and it's amazing to say the least! The toughest part is getting use to the right intake amount of carbs, fat and protien which gets easier over time. Good luck!

P90X is pretty extreme, if you are having difficulty getting through 20 mins of your workout tapes you will probably struggle with P90X. However, I'm a firm believer that if you want something bad enough (and have the will power), you'll do it. If you know someone that has it, you may want to try a workout of two to see if it's right for you.

Mindysue3553 02-23-2010 08:55 AM

I have done PX90 4 times. If you are new and not quite in shape, use light weights and build yourself up. If you discourage easly, they I suggest Slim in 6 or Turbo Jam, I still do these as well, I am actually working in Insanity. They are from Beach Body.

Hope this helps.

PS: I am 44..

wellnfit 02-26-2010 09:13 AM

I'm starting on Monday. I'm curious - what activity categories do you use on Fitday to track your activity?

Oz51 02-27-2010 07:10 PM

I am 5 days into p90x. It is intense!! Does anyone else have trouble with balance in the routines, especially yoga? I'm hoping this gets better with time.

You're going to love it! It's a butt kicker, that's for sure! I will warn you that you will hear, "Pam the blam" a few times...haha!

As for tracking it in FitDay, I've actually started a thread asking how to do so. It would be great if we could get the option to track free weights/reps, etc. I've just been entering it as calisthenics. I don't know if that's right. What is everyone else using to track it?

Good luck and have fun! Keep us posted as to how you progress.

It is intense, isn't it? I love the Core Synergystics workout the best so far.

As for balance, yes, I struggle with that and especially in yoga. The other thing I find that I struggle with is the strength to do the pull ups. I also do the pushups on my knees. I'm looking forward to getting to the point where I have the balance and strength for all of it. I like what Tony says about the workouts though - just show up.

Are you doing the classic or the lean?

I'm doing classic. I also do the pushups on my knees & have to use a chair to help with the pull ups. Today is Kenpo & I have been looking forward to it all day!

Thank for your response, it is reassuring to know that someone else is having similar difficulties. Although it is sooo hard, I'm not giving up.

Hi

My husband and I are starting tomorrow! I have been planning my meals all weekend- I am vegan and trying to plan how to get in 225g of protein without too much tofu! I am going to do the lean and my husband is doing classic!;)

whitwors 03-03-2010 04:27 AM

How do you like the insanity program. I was looking into getting into that program but trying to decide between P90X and Insanity

vabeach93 03-07-2010 09:53 AM

Bring It !

I'm just starting second phhase. 1st phase was an eye opener. Prior to P90X I had been walking on treadmill, up 15 degrees, at 4.7 MPH, an hour per day. Also was doing free weights and ab machines. Thought I was in pretty good condition. Uh-uh. P90X wakes up parts of you you forgot you had. After 30 days only dropped 3 pounds, but significant difference in tightness. Core/legs/shoulders/ arms all feeling good. Of course I'm just ending the "recover" week. All new fun tomorrow.

The first thing you learn with P90X is that your favorite piece of workout equipment is the pause button on your DVD player.

I'm 58.

I don't think anyone else can answer that question for you. It is intense, but you can work at your own pace, modify the exercises and pause whenever you need to catch your breath. When I started P90 (not the X version) I was 100 pounds over weight, completely out of shape and 53 yrs old. I had to modify all of the exercises at first and gradually could do some of them the regular way. I gained a lot of muscle and burned a lot of fat in a very short period of time.
If you're not in condition, have any health or joint issues or are getting long in the tooth, you have to really listen to your body and know your limits to not injure yourself. I say this because I have fibromyalgia so I always had to work my muscles to the point of fatigue just to do the workout. I had to ice some joints after exercising and kept re-injuring my shoulders, eventually ended up having to quit all of the exercises that involved shoulders while the injuries healed. During that recovery period I stopped exercising together. My shoulders have healed although both are still considered unstable. So this time I'm easing into exercise slow and easy and after my body is more conditioned I might go back to P90 (skipping the weight/band exercises that caused the shoulder injuries) but will take a much slower approach.

yep, almost finished 180 days.

No, just a wannabee. I watch the infomercial all the time, but it seems to me that all the people were in really fabulous shape at one point (somewhat recently) in their lives and are "getting back into shape" which is not really my story. Now if they had put a fat middle aged housewife on the program and turned her into a supermodel in 6 months, my check would be on it's way Fed-ex by the end of the show.

My nephew has it but like the folks in the infomercial, he was in fantastic shape not too long ago. Eight months on a tour of duty in Iraq will do that to you.

Almeeker-my husband and I did P90 for 1.5 months until I injured my shoulder (and lower back) to the point where I had to stop to let the injuries heal properly. It is a really, really intense workout program. Anyways what I wanted to suggest to you is to go to their website's forum and you'll see and hear from those ppl -- quite a few of the women were morbidly obese when they started and their after 90 days pictures were amazing--not model thin unless they did a second or third round of P90X but very impressive changes! Only a couple of them were middle aged, some don't say how old they are and when in shape they just looked young to me.
I'm in my 50's but the only ppl I saw with those amazing results who started in the morbidly obese range at my age were men. Maybe that's changed now I haven't been back to the website in about a year.
Like you, I'm only 5'2" and weighed about the same at our starting points - I was at my highest weight when I started and lost 50 pounds in that time frame - no kidding!
I tend to push myself too far so coming from a sedentary lifestyle to that kind of intense workout is why I kept injuring myself. If you took it slower & paced yourself within your own abilities not do what the ppl of the DVDs are doing I highly recommend giving it a try. I still think it was worth the investment b/c I learned so much about exercise & what my body can and can't do at this age/shape and I hope to do a full 90 days of it when I slowly ramp myself up to the level again. I lost a lot of inches very, very fast.
