Talking Bigger & Better in Texas

So has anyone ever heard that everything is "bigger and better in Texas"? Well, I'm here to tell you that it is the God's honest truth. Hi ya'll, I'm Wendy and I was born and raised in Texas. Been here all my life, married me a good ole Texas boy and raising two little Texans myself. I like good southern food, mexican too and of course BBQ (my favorite)! And guess what? You sure can tell over the past say 13 years that I have enjoyed that good food. My weight has steadily increased since I got married 14 years ago. I was always on the "thick", as my husband likes to say, side. At one time, a very difficult time, I did get down to a size 5. I can't say I was happy at that time, but I did look good in a tight pair of wranglers I am no stranger to diets...pills, fads, extreme exercising, fasting...you name it, I've tried it. But the one thing I've noticed during this entire time is the lack of support from friends and family. My husband is still the same size as when I met him. My siblings obviously took after a different side of the family than myself. My parents are in great health and not overweight. And most of my friends do not stick with diets for any length of time. So here comes the point of this thread...I need a few dedicated, and I mean dedicated individuals to push me and support my journey. If we have to get drill sargeant dirty, then that's what I'm talking about. I want daily updates, weights, exercises, cheats, harsh words, the cold hard truth!!! So any good ole southern girls wanna give it a go? Or northern, eastern, western!!! LOL

Welcome aboard Wendy. I've heard that everything is bigger in Texas, never heard better. I'm Mike from southeast Louisiana, just outside of New Orleans. I've been to Texas and I hate to break it to you, y'alls food can not compare to what we have. Sorry, but it's the truth. I would say that what y'all have comes close, but sadly, I'd be lying.

If you ever want to experience so real, really good food, take a trip to Louisiana. We may be your neighbor but when it comes to food, we are a world away.

Hi Wendy, welcome. Take a look around the threads; you will find a lot of folks on the same path. Everyone is very friendly and willing to motivate, lend an ear, and answer questions. One example is the 7-Day Motivational Thread in the Women's Corner section; come check it out. We usually post goals on Mondays and update during the week, but people can jump in at any time. Participation varies depending on how busy folks are, but a lot of us are on daily for check ins, confessionals, success celebrations, and updating of goals. Come on down and see if that's what you're looking for!

Hey Mike,

Good to know. And I have been to Louisiana, several times. I love the Mud Bug Festival in Shreveport/Bossier City. Been to N.O. and had some Bubba Gump Shrimp poboys. My sister in law makes boudain a lot and I'm a big fan. I do agree with you on Cajun food, LA has it down pat. Thanks for the welcome. And good luck to you "neighbor" on your continued weight loss.

Thank you Cassie. I will certainly look into those other forums. Glad to know others out there are so willing to get on this bandwagon.

Welcome from up here in the NW! One thread I find helpful for motivation is the "Did you exercise today?" thread in "Exercise." Reading about other peoples' workouts helps get me off my chair and to the gym.
