Welcome djtrini! Just remember that you can't out train a bad diet. What you eat is 80% of the journey. Let us know if you have specific questions or advice on working out. I am a big believer in weight/strength training, for men and especially women. You need to start any exercise program with the idea that it isn't just a short term plan. Regular exercise will help you get and stay fit for the long term.
