South Beach Diet Question
I am finishing up day 4 of the South Beach diet. It is actually going pretty well. Even though you don't count calories on this diet, I have still been logging what I eat just so that I am accountable. On the pie chart at the bottom of the food log, it has said that I am eating 58% fat, 30% protein, and 12% carbs. Is that pretty typical of a person on the South Beach diet? I thought I would be eating more protein than fat. I am eating reduced fat items, skin milk, and lean protein just like I am supposed to.

I can't speak to whether or not it's typical, as I'm not familiar with South Beach, but one reason the fat percentage may be higher than protein is because protein has 4 calories per gram, whereas fat has 9 calories per gram. The pie chart shows the percentage of your calories from each. If you want to tweak it, just look at the fat and protein of the individual foods in your log and see what foods fit with what you want and which ones don't. Good luck!

I was on it for over a year and a half and lost 100lbs with it. That fat % sounds high to me. I was around 33% with fats most days, and that was including adding a tablespoon of flax seed oil to my morning smoothie. I did not log my foods for Phase 1 of the plan though, so I can't be sure what the percentages were back then.
Best of luck on South Beach. It worked wonders for me!
