There are many competitive vegan bodybuilders who do not use whey protein. The debate over soy vs whey will probably never end.
I am a vegetarian but I don't use either because I get enough protein from the food I eat. My protein was 42% (127.6) of my 1202 cals today.
I just saw the OP's post that she bought both.
