I was also going to suggest pairing the carbs with a fat or protein-the crackers with peanut butter for example. The freeze dried friuts weren't too bad if I recall, it's been several years since I've seen an MRE. If you don't have a tape measure handy, find a piece of string and make a knot to mark where your waist measurement is now. Even if you can't put a number value on it, you can at least see the knots move further in. Rough measurements: the tip of a human finger is about 1 centimeter, the width of the first 2 fingers is about an inch.
