Wondering which foods to buy at the bulk bins? The following foods are ideal for keeping your body well fed and your bank account happy.

One of the biggest reasons some people state for not being able to eat healthy is because it’s just too expensive. But the fact of the matter is that if you know a few tips and tricks, you can eat healthy on a budget.

One tip is to purchase certain foods in bulk so that you can pay a lower price per serving. While not all bulk bin items are going to fuel your body well, there are definitely a number of great health gems in that bulk foods store.

Let’s look at a few of the best snack foods that you’ll want to buy in bulk for optimal nutritional success and financial management.

Nuts

When it comes to snacking, you can’t go wrong with nuts. Nuts pack in a good dose of protein, healthy fat, and dietary fiber. They are very calorie dense, so you’ll definitely want to limit yourself to just one handful or two, but they can make an excellent snack on the go.

You’ll find all kinds of nut varieties when shopping at bulk foods stores, but do try and pick up the ones that are unsalted whenever possible. This will help keep your sodium intake in check. And it should go without saying that you’ll also want to avoid nuts that are candy coated.

Dark Chocolate Chips

Dark chocolate chips are another snack items you may treat yourself to at the bulk foods store. As long as you get dark chocolate and try and get as high of a percentage of cocoa as possible, a few of these a day can be a great way to take the edge off your cravings. They’re rich in antioxidants and will also contain healthy fats, so can be a delicious snack to have.

Dried Apple Chips

Dried apple chips are next up on the list of snacks to buy in bulk. These will keep well as long as they are in a sealed Tupperware container and can provide a non-perishable source of energy that you can take with you wherever you happen to be going.

Be careful of other dried fruit varieties however. Often they are laced with sugar and/or oil and aren’t the healthiest choices. One example of this is dried banana chips, which are not going to be an ideal snack food as far as health is concerned.

Whole Grain Cereals

Finally, load up on whole grain cereals while you’re there as well. With plenty of different varieties to choose from, you’re bound to find one that you enjoy. Whole grain shredded wheat, puffed wheat, or Mini Wheat’s are all excellent choices here and can be a great snack on the go as well when packed in Tupperware or baggies.

So there you have the top bulk barn snacks that you’ll want to pick up next time you’re in the store. These are all healthy and will serve your body well while keeping your grocery costs down.
