Kelly Osbourne was never really the type of celebrity that people would look to for fitness advice. All that changed just a few years ago, and her appearance on ABC's Dancing with the Stars showcased the way her life had turned around. The once-heavy star made an appearance on the show, and she danced her way into third place. Not only did she do so with surprising grace and style, but while losing weight and getting in shape at the same time. Now Kelly Osbourne is one of our fitness role models!
If Kelly Osbourne lost 40 pounds to get in shape for Dancing with the Stars, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that anyone else can do the same. But how did she do it?
1. Dedication to Exercise
Her dance partner, Louis van Amstel, forced her to work out and practice for up to six hours a day--a grueling pace for anyone in any condition. That's obviously a dedication that most can't commit to. However, her follow up regimen is something doable: she makes an effort to work out at least three times a week--doing Pilates for at least an hour. If she isn't able to hit the gym or attend her class, she'll hike in the California hills near the Osbourne mansion. She'll do pushups, situps, and any other exercise she can, and she'll get her workout in no matter what. She recommends circuit training and yoga, or just about anything that will provide a good cardio workout.

2. Night Snacking
Kelly is a proponent of having a little something to eat before going to sleep, as it helps to keep her metabolism burning into the night. She recommends eating half an apple, a small serving of oats, or something else equally light just before turning in for the night. As long as it's low in carbs and low in sugar, it will be great for keeping your metabolism burning calories even when you sleep.
3. Eating Right
If there is one thing that Kelly loves to do, it's grab a bite of something tasty to eat with friends. These days, though, something tasty is usually something healthy, like an egg-white omelet loaded with turkey bacon, a delicious bean, cheese and lettuce salad, or a burger made with ground turkey instead of beef. Jell-O is one of her favorite snacks, and the sugar-free variety helps her to fill up without loading up the carbs. She'll still have a slice of her favorite pizza now and again, but she makes sure to keep her diet as clean and healthy as possible. Thanks to this, she's managed to lose those 40 pounds, and keep them off--something many Dancing with the Stars contestants cannot say.
4. Eating Consistently
Kelly hated the idea of skipping meals, as "it made her miserable" when she felt hungry. Eating at each meal is the best way to enjoy your diets, even if they involve very little food. If you are going to lose weight like she did, follow her example and eat smaller portions of lower-calorie and low-fat food at each meal--but eat three to five square meals a day. It's all about lowering calories, not about starving yourself.
