People have been indulging in frozen juice for decades. And although it is widely known to be refreshing, easily accessible and have a great taste, its nutritional value is debatable.
Different Brands Different Nutrition
Different brands and varieties of juice, such as apple and orange, can offer significantly different health benefits. The calorie count for an 8- ounce frozen juice can range anywhere from 50 to 160. The sugar content for different brands can also vary a great deal, ranging from 12 g to 39 g. This information may be critical to those who are watching their weight and/or sugar intake.
Most frozen juices have minimal vitamins and minerals. Most have 0% calcium, 0% iron, about 8% to 10% vitamin C, and other nutrient levels are negligible. A few brands make fortified frozen juices and they can add quite a bit of nutrition into their product. Some brands add as much as 100% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C, 15% of folate, 6% of magnesium and several other B vitamins.
Low Sodium
The sodium content in each brand is also different, but they are all relatively minimal. Some frozen juice have 0 sodium where as other brands can go up to 35 mg.
Minimal Fiber
Since almost all frozen juices are made from fruit concentrates, very few of them have any fiber content. Of the ones that do contain fiber, the amount is insignificant--about 0.6 g per can.
The nutrition label on any type of frozen juice may be the best place to start if you're concerned about the amount of nutrition you could be getting from frozen juice.
