No Time for a Meal? Grab These Healthy Snacks

If you do not have the time to sit down to a meal, try eating some healthy snacks instead. When you are at work, it is always a good idea to have some snacks tucked away so you do not have to buy any from a vending machine. If you know in advance that a certain day is going to be hectic, plan ahead and bring some healthy snacks from home. You will be able to maintain your energy level longer, which can help you have a more productive day.

Fruit

Fruit is a healthy snack you can eat while you are on the move. Buy some apples, bananas or grapes when you know you will not have time to eat a full meal. You may want to cut up several different types of fruit to put in a plastic container. This will allow you to eat a quick snack, then seal the container so you can have another snack later if your day runs longer than expected. Make sure to store the container in a cool place if you are able.

Crackers

Crackers are a simple snack that you can hide away in case you need a quick pick-me-up. Try to buy crackers that are low in sodium, which will help you avoid becoming dehydrated. You may want to avoid crackers that have cheese or peanut butter, unless you intend to eat the crackers soon after you buy them.

Remember to check the label on the back of the box or package before you buy the crackers to make sure they are not high in fat. Decide how many crackers you can eat to stay within your maximum daily calorie intake. Take the exact number of crackers you want to eat out of the package, then seal the rest away to help you avoid over snacking.

Power Bar

There are many nutritional power bars you can buy for a quick snack. Before you buy a particular bar, look on the wrapper or box to see how many calories the bar contains. Some bars are high in protein, while others may have more fat than you would like.

If a bar has too many calories, eat half of it then put the rest of the bar in a plastic bag or container. Remember to store the bar in a cool place so it does not melt. Do not let the bar sit in a container for too many days, or it may dry out.

Leftovers

Instead of throwing food away after a meal, wrap up your leftovers so you can have them for a snack. For example, if you have chicken for dinner, put a leftover drumstick in a plastic container to eat as a snack the next day. You can also use some leftover raw vegetables such as carrot sticks or celery for a snack. Eat a portion of leftovers that will give you enough energy to last until your next meal.
