Apples
A no-brainer, apples are seasonal fruits, though many people either do not know this or have forgotten, simply because they are so ubiquitous. However, late summer through the fall is the season for apples, and you can usually put them into cold storage until the spring. To make certain that you bring home with you the freshest apples at the farmers' market, just look for the ones that are firm. Press them lightly to examine them. Apricots
Another seasonal fruit, apricots come into season from late spring to the early summer, so the window of time that you have to find them at your local farmers' market is relatively short. Asparagus

Go after asparagus that is a bright green in color, has ends that are evenly cut, features smooth skin, and has compact heads. While you can store asparagus at home, just remember that their best taste comes out when you eat them sooner rather than later.
