Keep in mind the following 3 ways to keep from gaining weight while on vacation. Vacation is a time to set aside all responsibilities and let loose. However, if you completely forget your healthy eating plan, you may have to let your belt loose a few notches when you return home.
Choose Your Accommodations Wisely
When planning your next vacation, make sure you take into consideration what exercise facilities your hotel has to offer. Most hotels and resorts will have some kind of workout space available for their customers. Call ahead and find out if these services are available with the price of your room or if you have to pay an additional surcharge. Make sure the gym will be open during the hours that will work with your vacation itinerary. If you must stay somewhere that does not offer an in-house gym, do a quick Internet search before you leave to find out where the closest gym is located. Often times, gyms will offer guest passes to non members. If you are a member of a gym in your hometown, ask if they have any other locations near your vacation spot. They may even be able to call ahead for you and set up a short term membership as part of a professional courtesy.
Set Realistic Workout Goals
While you don't want to completely abandon your workout routine while on vacation, you most likely won't be able to strictly adhere to your regular schedule either. Make realistic modifications to your plan. Remember that you will be changing your eating and sleeping patterns while you're away. Perhaps you could workout the same number of times as you normally would, but simply reduce the duration of your workout. If that doesn't work, cut back the amount of times you exercise by 50 percent, perhaps every other day as opposed to daily. Keep yourself in the habit of exercising, without making it feel like you aren't really getting away from it all. Don't set yourself up for failure. Realistic goals during vacation will help you from gaining that unwanted weight.
Follow a Plan with Your Daily Diet
While you may indulge now and then while you're away, allow yourself the liberty to partake in the great treats your vacation spot has to offer. However, start each day with a plan. If you will be attending a 3-course dinner, pay attention to your breakfast and lunch meal options. Keep to light meals during the day that are full of low-calorie fruits and vegetables. This will allow for a minor splurge at dinner. Pay attention to your caloric intake each day as a whole, while allowing yourself to enjoy your vacation. Don't forget that many alcoholic drinks contain hidden empty calories. Alcohol can also diminish your focus and you may find yourself forgetting your plan altogether. If that happens, forgive yourself and start new the next day. As long as you don't completely disregard your diet, you will be able to keep from gaining weight while on your vacation.
