There are many reasons why it may be difficult to keep off weight you've already lost. If you're experiencing this problem, then consider taking steps to find out why. You may be sabotaging your efforts without even knowing it. Here are seven reasons why it is difficult to keep off weight.

1. Eating Larger Portions

Once you lose the weight you want, you need to watch how much you eat. Portion control worked well while you were dieting. After losing the weight, you should continue eating healthy portions. Cook only small meals of food. If you have leftovers, put them aside for lunch or the next night's dinner. Plan your meals ahead of time as well. It's also a good idea to cook full meals and divide each one into individual portions. You can freeze the rest for later on.

2. Consuming Too Many Calories

Your weight loss management includes watching your calorie intake. Eat only lean protein, fish, vegetables and fruits for meals. Avoid sugary cakes, cookies and high-calorie sodas. Also resist the urge to add butter and other condiments to your food.

3. Exercising Less Often

You need to maintain your weight loss by continuing on an exercise plan. It's easy to slack off once you meet your goals. However, missing even one exercise session can lead to weight gain. Plan to work out at least three times a week for 30 minutes each session.

Take the kids out to the park or plan family time on the weekend. When you're at work, spend half of your lunch break taking a walk. While at your work desk, stand up for a few minutes and stretch. Sleep is an important aspect of weight management. Adults need at least 8 hours of sleep each night. Staying awake to watch television or catch up on house cleaning affects your weight more than you think. You tend to grab snacks when you stay up as well.
