One of the best things about warm weather is the abundance of specialty summer drinks. Some warm-weather drinks can be loaded with sugar and alcohol, which won't help you achieve your weight loss goals. The following drinks are light, delicious, and best of all...low in calories:
An all-time party classic, this fruit punch is great for those summer barbecues and parties that lie ahead.
Simply stone and chop some fruit, such as peaches, plums an apricots, before combining them in a bowl with some good quality fruit juice and some sparkling wine. You can use carbonated apple juice instead if you prefer your punch without alcohol.
Finish off by adding a cup of seltzer to the mix before pouring into individual glasses and enjoy!
This exotic beverage contains only 200 calories per serving, as well as added vitamins and minerals from the high fruit content.
Caribbean Strawberry Daiquiri
An exotic twist on a very popular summer drink; this is a mouth watering combination of frozen strawberries, coconut-flavored rum, lime juice and sugar. You can use sugar substitute instead of real sugar, which will reduce the calorie count even further.
It is simply a matter of blending the strawberries with a couple tablespoons of lime juice, a couple of ice cubes and the rum, before serving in cocktail glasses for your guests. Of course, you can replace the rum in this drink for a few drops of coconut essence if you prefer a non-alcoholic version
Herb and Lemon-ade
A delicious version of the traditional lemonade that infuses the delicate flavor of rosemary into a healthy version of the popular drink.
After peeling and chopping a cucumber, blend it together with a tablespoon of fresh rosemary in a food processor.
When it reaches the consistency of a thick syrup, strain it through a muslin cloth or other fine-meshed strainer, collecting the juice in a bowl underneath. Add some water to the mix as well as 1/2 a cup of fresh lemon juice and some liquid sweetener or even maple syrup to taste. Make sure that all the ingredients are combined before dividing into individual glasses and garnishing with a sprig of rosemary before serving.
Creamy Fruit Smoothie
This is a great way to start your day at breakfast, and has hardly any calories to boot.
Put some fat-free yogurt into a blender before adding any combination of fruit you like. Mangoes, bananas, papayas and frozen berries are all good choices that are low in calories and packed full of antioxidants. Toss in a few ice cubes and even a little agave syrup if you prefer your smoothie a little sweeter. Blitz together and add a little soy milk, fat-free milk or water to get the consistency you prefer. Pour into a high glass and enjoy this nutritious and filling treat.
