Slim and Tone before the Big Day

You want to slim and tone for your big day. No matter whether your big day is your wedding, that big class reunion or another special date, you want to look your best. Here are some ideas to get you in your best shape for the big day:

Eat Right

Your first step to looking great is to evaluate your eating habits.

Are you starting each day with a healthy breakfast? If not, begin now. Include high fiber, low fat foods that will fill you up without filling you out. High fiber cereals are good choices, as are oatmeal, fruit, yogurt and whole grain toast.

Lunch should feature a protein item such as grilled chicken or fish, and healthy fruits and vegetables. Drink plenty of water, not only with lunch but throughout the day to keep your stomach full.

For dinner, eat a healthy meal with a variety of food groups represented. Don't deprive yourself of desserts, but taste just a few bites or eat healthy options such as fruits.

Stay away from fried foods and from foods high in sodium, as they will encourage water retention.

Snacks are fine as long as they are low fat and healthy. A handful of nuts is an excellent snack, as is an apple with a tablespoon of peanut butter for dip. Eating every few hours, in moderate amounts, is actually a good idea because it keeps your metabolism going at a more steady rate.

Exercise

Eating right is important, but you won't get in shape just by choosing wise eating habits. In order to tone, you'll need an effective workout routine.

Choose an activity you enjoy: swimming, jogging, walking, biking or fitness classes in cardio or yoga are all good choices. Aim for 30 minute sessions at least 5 days per week, in order to tone quickly for your big day.

Whatever your activity, you can kick up your results a notch by exercising in sprints - periods of 30 seconds to 2 minutes, in which you push yourself to your maximum effort, followed by periods of recovery. Fat loss is enhanced by exercising in this way.

Increase your activity level in other ways besides your formal exercise routine. Park far away from store entrances. Take the stairs rather than the elevator. All these small steps add up over the course of several weeks.

Find a Partner

You will be more successful in your slimming and toning efforts if you find an accountability partner to work with.

Work out with your friend, and also keep tabs with her on how you are doing with your diet goals. Just knowing that you need to answer to someone else is often enough to keep your toning motivation high.

Before you know it, your big day will arrive. Knowing that you've put some thought and planning into getting slim and tone, you will be prepared and will look your absolute best so that you can enjoy the day to its fullest. You deserve it!
