How to Tighten the Skin on Your Thighs after Weight Loss

So you've recently lost weight--and while you may be thrilled with your current weight, chances are that you aren't as happy about the loose skin that is now appearing, and are looking for a way to tighten the skin. Toning loose skin is never an easy thing to do. But by keeping three basic guidelines in mind, you can tone those trouble spots. You'll be looking great in no time at all!

Exercise

Exercise is one of the best ways to tighten the skin on your thighs after weight loss. There are three main types of exercise: cardiovascular exercise, such as walking, running, or biking, which helps to strengthen your heart and improve your cardiovascular system; flexibility training, which helps to stretch muscles and can aid in the prevention of injury; and strength training, which increases muscular strength and size. Strength training is the best way you can tighten the skin on your thighs after weight loss. Strength training increases muscle mass, which will help to fill out the loose skin and make it feel more firm. Cardiovascular exercise can also be effective in burning fat. This can help the skin to tighten and shrink as well.  

Eat Right

Most personal trainers, group exercise instructors, and other exercise gurus will tell you that exercise is essential to tone lose skin. And while exercise is important, diet is also crucial to improving the appearance of these trouble spots. In fact, if you don't eat properly after exercising, all of your hard work will have been for nothing. The most important thing you can eat when trying to tone the skin on your thighs after weight loss is protein. Protein helps to build muscles--and muscles burn fat. Therefore, the consumption of high amounts of protein can lead to greater weight loss. In addition, protein consumption helps to support the work you have done in the gym--without adequate protein consumption, your muscles won't heal properly, and you won't see any improvement in either strength or muscle tone.

Adequate fruit and vegetable consumption is also important for tightening the skin on your thighs after weight loss. Fruits and vegetables contain vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that are essential in removing the free radicals and other damaging products in your body that can contribute to weight gain. These vitamins and minerals are also important in helping to firm and tone skin, resulting in a smoother, healthier look.

Drink Plenty of Water

Your body is composed almost primarily of water--and therefore it is no surprise that it is essential for both good health and cosmetic beauty. Drinking enough water helps to keep your skin looking healthy and young--and therefore, eliminating some of the signs of sagging skin associated with recent weight loss. In addition, adequate water consumption helps to remove some of the free radicals and other toxins which can be damaging to your skin. For most adults, 64 ounces of water, or around eight glasses a day, is enough to achieve optimal results. Remember that if you are exercising or engaged in vigorous outdoor activity, you may require more water to replace that which has been lost through sweat.
