These Are the Top Spots for Runners to Visit

The world is filled with beautiful spots, perfectly tailored to a wide range of physical activities. If you’re a hiker you may head to Salt Lake City in Utah, USA, or the Hot Spring Route in Iceland, while a cyclist may opt for a trip to Copenhagen in Denmark, or Amsterdam in the Netherlands. But where should you visit if you’re a running enthusiast? The good news is there are a lot of cities that were made for running.

According to Active, the United States has some fantastic cities for runners, which include Washington D.C, which is home to a large community of runners and offers spots like Rock Creek Park. There is also Flagstaff, Arizona, which reportedly has more than 50 miles of trails to run, and San Francisco, California, which is great for competitive racing and offers a lot of rocky trails.

Also on the list is Portland, Oregon, Chicago, Illinois, and Boulder, Colorado, as well as Boston, Massachusetts. We see similar cities being named again on a list compiled by Forbes. According to the article, among the top 10 best cities in the United States for runners are New York, New York, which has places like Central Park. Portland, Oregon, has tree-lined trails and options to run alongside the Willamette River, and Boston, Massachusetts which is home to the Boston Marathon but also gives runners the opportunity to run along the historic Freedom Trail and the Charles River.

But what if you want to run outside of America? Then, according to Livestrong, you may want to head to London, the United Kingdom, which is the home to Hyde Park—a beautiful five-mile-long park, where you can run through grassy lawns or Cliffs of Moher in Western Ireland. Cape Town, South Africa, is another top spot because it's home to Table Mountain (but he warned this does require some hiking) and Signal Hill, which is a wonderful uphill run with unbeatable views at the top.

While Ultrarunning notes that Europe is also home to excellent parks including the 2 mile Vondelpark in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and Margaret Island, Budai Tájvédelmi Körzetet in Budapest, Hungary, which reportedly has a large a 3.25-mile track.
