8 Survival Themed Workouts That Will Prepare You For The Zombie Apocalypse

Have you ever stopped to think about what would happen if zombies attacked? Would you survive, or would you fall prey to the horde? The last thing you want is to be caught unprepared when people turn to zombies (either the slow, shambling zombies of The Walking Dead or, God forbid, the fast, intelligent zombies of World War Z).

Here is an epic workout to prepare you for the zombie apocalypse:

  • Pull-Ups -- You never know when you'll find yourself clinging to a rooftop or the edge of a cliff to escape zombies! Pull-ups will help you have the upper body strength needed to pull yourself to safety. Plus, they'll shred your arms and shoulders.
  • Squat Jumps -- What's the best way to escape zombies? Get somewhere they can't go! This could mean jumping from rooftop to rooftop, or leaping from car to car. You'll need more jumping power and stamina, and that's where Squat Jumps come in handy. Nothing builds explosive jumping force like Squat Jumps!
  • Push-Ups -- You won't need to do many push-ups when zombies attack (other than to impress the lady survivors), but Push-Ups will help you to develop the muscles that will come in handy when trying to hold a door shut against a horde of brain-eating zombies.
  • Sprints -- Why fight when you can run? A quick sprint will get you out of the zombie horde's path, increasing your chance of safety. Sprint training develops explosive speed, helping you go from "0 to 60" in seconds.
  • Jogging -- Sometimes, a sprint won't be enough to outrun the horde. You may need to run for more than a few seconds, and that's where jogging comes in. Jogging will help you develop endurance to go for miles, or walk all day long. You'll be thankful for your good cardiovascular conditioning when fleeing from zombies.
  • Sledgehammer Workout -- What could be more appropriate than pounding at a tire with a 10-pound sledgehammer to prepare for the zom-poc? You'll have a lot more "hitting" power thanks to this whole body workout, and you'll be able to fight off a zombie horde without tiring. If you can fling around a 10-pound sledgehammer, imagine how much easier it will be to use a lighter weapon!
  • Chain Link Fence Climbs -- What do you do if a fence separates you from freedom? Climb it, of course! But climbing chain link fences is not as easy as it looks. It takes a lot of strength and endurance to get over the top of the fence and down the other side safely. It's worth practicing so you know how to scale fences quickly just in case of a zombie apocalypse.
  • Sled Push -- Yet another brilliant exercise to develop the "pushing" muscles that will come in handy! It's not only great for your upper body, but it works your legs and improves your cardio. You'll be glad you invested time in this workout when you have to push a stalled car or hold a door closed against a zombie attack.

We're not saying the zombie apocalypse will happen, but don't you want to be prepared for it "just in case"? With these exercises, you will be ready!
