Who the Bowflex Is Right for

If you've been thinking about purchasing a Bowflex, there are a number of factors you should consider before committing to buy. Read on to learn about the various pros and cons of this unique piece of exercise equipment.

Weight Capacity and Type of Workout

If you're an advanced bodybuilder or power lifter, you may be turned off by the Bowflex's 300 pound weight capacity. While the device will still give you a vigorous workout, you may want to consider purchasing a traditional weight bench if bodybuilding is your foremost priority. If you're not a fan of heavy lifting, however, a Bowflex should give you a good workout while not overtaxing your physical strength, as the device uses a system of polymer rods instead of traditional weights and pulleys. Alternatively, if you're looking to get into bodybuilding, a Bowflex can serve as a great device with which to build the stamina needed for heavy lifting.

Space Requirements

A typical Bowflex will require a fair amount of space to store, usually about 1/4 of an average-sized room. While this shouldn't be a problem for people who live in houses, the device can eat up quite a bit of space in smaller apartments. This can be a source of conflict if you live with a partner or roommate who has no use for large exercise equipment. Once again, if bodybuilding is your primary reason for purchasing a Bowflex, a small weight bench may be the wiser choice, as it will require less space and gives you a workout that is more in tune with what you want. Still, if you reside in an apartment--particularly if you live by yourself--the amount of space taken up by the device can be a small price to pay for a rewarding workout.
