Want to ensure you see optimal results from your fitness and nutrition plan? Use these five steps to setting proper goals that virtually guarantee your results.

As you get into your new workout and nutrition routine for the fall season, chances are, you want to be sure that you are doing everything possible to see optimal results. Part of that means setting the right goals.

Goal setting is something that too many people do on a whim but can make a significant difference in the results they see.

Let’s go over five steps that you must take if you are to set proper goals this fall season and carry your programs through to success.

Get Specific

First, make sure that you are as specific as possible when setting your goals. You don’t just want to lose weight – you want to lose 5 pounds. You don’t just want to get thinner, you want to lose 2 inches off your waist.

The more specific you are, the easier it’ll be to see how close to success you’re coming. This can be a strong motivational factor when it comes to pushing through those hard times. The more specific you are, the better.

Double Check They’re Realistic

One thing that you must ensure you do is triple check that your goals are realistic. It’s easy to get lost in the ‘hope’ and forget that real life will step in and make things challenging.

Know what you are capable of doing give your body type, your lifestyle, as well as all the other obligations you have to attend to. Setting realistic goals is important otherwise, you are going to feel defeated before you even begin.

If anything, set goals that you are more than confident you can reach first as this will get the momentum going. Once you reach those initial goals, you can always add a second goal from there.

Get Your Resources Ready

It’s also important that you take some time to get your resources ready. This refers to anything you’ll need to reach your goal. It could be a nutritionist, a personal trainer, or some home gym equipment.

Make sure that this is all lined up and ready to go before you start working towards your goals. This way, you won’t face any hurdles that are out of your control as you get going. You need to be fully prepared to tackle those goals head on once your program gets underway.

Know Your Timeline

Be sure that you know your timeline. When do you want to reach this goal by? Make sure this timeline is realistic as well as something that will motivate you to keep going. You don’t want to allow so much time that you start putting off workouts because you can.

Having that timeline in place though should help you keep pushing forward, ensuring you stay on track and are committed to seeing success.

Focus On Process Goals As Well

Finally, don’t just focus on outcome goals. Set process goals as well. These are little goals that will help you reach those long-term outcome goals. It could be having 10 glasses of water per day or eating five servings of vegetables. Or, maybe it’s running a mile 30 seconds faster that you used to.

Set these smaller goals to help you work your way to that bigger goal.

So there you have five steps to setting smarter goals. Are you missing any of these steps with your approach?
