3 Overlooked Exercises to Jump-Start Your Stale Gym Routine

Find out which are the best new exercises to include in your workout routine to combat boredom, improve your fitness, and get great results.

As the cooler months get underway, it might just be time to liven up your workout program. Whether you've been hitting the gym all year long or have taken a sabbatical from the gym itself you need something to get you back into the "ring" and excited about working out again.

New exercises can do just that.

Most people head to the gym and do the same things over and over again. At first, this may lead to great results. But, as time goes on, your body plateaus and soon those results aren’t coming like they used to. This can only add to the boredom factor, eventually causing you to fall off the wagon completely.

Fortunately, you can get past this. Let’s look at three great new exercises to try this fall to liven up your workout routine.

Punching Bag Work

Tired of the treadmill, bike, and elliptical? Who can blame you? So many people do these workouts over and over again that eventually, it becomes something you dread.

Why not take your workout over to the punching bag instead? Most commercial gyms have one and with this form of cardio, you’ll work both your upper and lower body. And, you might even find you relieve a good amount of stress while you’re at it.

Start slow and work your way up to punching or kicking for 20 minutes straight. It’s a great workout that will also put your strength and power to the test.

Front Squats

Don’t overlook front squats in your workout routine. While the conventional back squats are excellent for building lower body power, front squats add a new dynamic to the mix and will also help to improve your quad strength significantly.

A balance between back squats and front squats is best, so alternate between them when you hit the gym. Note that most people will be weaker on front squats compared to back squats, so be sure that you adjust the weight accordingly.

Push-Ups

Finally, the last exercise you’ll want to add to your workout routine are push-ups. Another classically overlooked exercise because most are focusing on bench pressing activities, push-ups come in many variations and can challenge your chest muscles from all angles.

Try incline push-ups, decline push-ups, clap push-ups, spiderman push-ups, or any other variation that you prefer.

Do these at the start of your workout or at the end as a finisher — your choice. Just be sure to add them into your workout sessions.

So there you have some of the best new exercises to consider doing at the gym. Changing up your workout routine every now and then is a must to keep you interested in the session ahead and seeing optimal results.
