It.s no secret that I love a good challenge! After receiving a bachelor.s degree in environmental science and a master.s degree in public health I decided that nutrition was my real passion. I returned to school to become a dietitian. In the meantime, I worked as a Lifestyle Coach for Mayo Clinic and learned that coaching, as opposed to just telling people what to do, was my thing. I love empowering individuals to take control of their own health and take the lead in creating and achieving their healthy lifestyle goals. I love to be active and have completed both a triathlon and duathlon. Howdy from Texas! I have been a practicing dietitian for about 20 years and currently focus on general nutrition and weight management. I received my B.S. and M.S. degrees at Texas Tech University and completed a dietetic internship in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I also have a certificate of training in Adult Weight Management from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. I have a very busy and active life, like many of my clients. I have a husband, three kids and another important family member, Kirby, our Bichon Frise dog. I spend most of my time working and providing the taxi service for the kids. If there is any spare time, I enjoy cooking, sewing and going to musicals. For those that know me well, I can never say my life is boring! As a registered dietitian and a certified nutritionist for over 25 years, I have helped hundreds of people to lose weight, improve their diets and live healthier lifestyles. My professional experiences over the years range from clinical dietitian to university instructor to freelance nutrition writer and coach. My nutrition education started at Penn State, where I earned my BS degree, and I went on to earn two Master.s degrees in the field, one from Michigan State and one from the University of Minnesota. I hold a Certificate in Adult Weight Management from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. When I am not working I love to read, cook, take long walks, bike ride, scrapbook and just enjoy spending time with my husband, 20 year-old daughter and 17 year-old son. I have been a dietitian for over 20 years. I believe in giving you practical pointers and support to make changes that will last. I currently work providing nutrition counseling to individuals and groups in my own private practice. In the past I have worked in hospitals and public health. I have also worked with our local schools to develop wellness programs. I have a master's degree in Nutrition from California State University, Northridge and completed my internship at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. I live in coastal North Carolina with my husband. When I am not working I enjoy cooking, gardening, and spending time with my friends.

What is a Registered Dietitian?

All Registered Dietitian have earned either a Bachelorâs Degree or Masters in a nutrition or dietetic field.

They have completed an accredited dietetic internship and have passed a national board exam through the Commission of Dietetic Registration. All Registered Dietitians are also required to complete continuing education units to maintain their credential and stay up-to-date in the field. Though these are only the minimum requirements, according to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics roughly half of all Registered Dietitians have advanced degrees and/or additional certifications.

What Does a Registered Dietitian Do?

A large portion of Registered Dietitians work in clinical settings including acute care hospitals, outpatient clinics, long-term care facilities or in private practice. But Registered Dietitians can also work in public health, research, food industry, sports nutrition, corporate wellness, and school districts.
